Deangelo Williams 2011 vs 2008

Good Example

Consider this fictitious example examining the central tendency of college dropouts who live in Redmond, WA. Let's say there are 5,000 college dropouts in Redmond, Washington, and each make $30,000/yr except this one guy named Gates. He makes $20 billion/yr. The average salary of a college dropout in Redmond is over $4 million/yr. So if I'm a student in Redmond I should skip class tomorrow, right? $4 million/yr might be the average, but it's not the central tendency and it's virtually useless information.

I think his point is, he still made those plays. If you're going to take away his big plays from 2011, you'd have to do the same from 2008 and I think that would still put the two seasons in a similar category. What you're saying is that we should take something away from Deangelo for making a few big plays when you really should do the opposite.

Yes, that is my point. You cannot take away plays. He made those plays. Taking them away negates any validity to the stats. You cannot use only the statistics that support your point of view. That is what the major "news" channels are Skip Bayless are for.

If you are going to not account for his 2 longest runs it would only make sense to eliminate a couple of his shortest runs too.

okay, take out his 2 longest.....and 2 of his worst negative runs. Doesn't matter. The eyes don't lie.

Bottom line is Stewart is just consistantly a better overall RB now......it was just a matter of time before that happened. Time is now. Stewart is better in a receiving role and is more consistant as a runner.

So if you take away Williams' two longest runs he is averaging 4.1 ypc.

Take away Stewart's two longest runs and he averages 4.3.

Not to belabor a point, but if you take away from one, you have to take away from the other, and there is not that much of a difference.

I can think of about 40 million differences

Those numbers are skewed a little though...Take away his 74 yard td and his 69 yard td run. The majority of his runs, he is getting stuffed.

A couple weeks back this same stupid thought process came up. If you took away his brilliant run against New Orleans he still averaged more yards per carry than JStew.

Stop this ridiculous fuging arguement people.

Since DeAngelo has come into the league he has been my all time favorite player so I'm DEFINITELY not one to bash him. Stats or not we've all heard the saying, "stats can lie". I agree with the poster that said "Take away his long runs and...." because simply put, Williams has been running for a yard or 2 on each carry, but then burst ONE big one that makes his stats appear good. Meanwhile as much as I hate to say it, Jonathan is coming in behind the SAME line and getting about 4 yards or more EVERY time he touches the ball, and then still getting big gains. Basically I think this new system and lack of touches has gotten to Williams, he still is a great back...but in this system it does not as much as it did before.
