only 5 picks???

In Gantt's blog today he mentioned that he has been hearing mumblings that the Panthers intend to wind up with more picks in the draft even if it has nothing to do with a Peppers trade.

Wouldn't surprise me

I'd like to know where they are going to get these extra picks. If they trade down the chances of getting quality contributing players become more unlikely. Maybe they intend to load the roster with more projects since they don't have anymore back ups for the OL.

Remember what we did last year?

I can't see us trading next year's first and additional picks to get into this year's first round (we may have a first if there's a Peppers deal), but I could see us doing something like trading next year's first to get a second and fourth this year. I'm not necessarily suggesting that exact scenario - that may not be the right value trade-off - but something along those lines wouldn't surprise me.

We are usually pretty good about swapping picks about and moving up and down in the draft, but I just don't see that happening this year. They only way we get into the first round is via Pep...and if he even goes, I still think we'll get screwed. We don't have any team backed into a corner over Pep, we just have Pep backed into a corner (and he us) over his contract. But come draft time, teams will have us backed into a corner if we feel we "have to" trade Pep (can you say for a 2nd and a 5th?). I don't think we will think that though and the team you see right now will pretty much be the team come game time, save an added cheapo back-up here and there.

we will trade next year's 1st rounder.. you heard it here first

i dont think thats a smart move just because all of are needs are not deep in the draft this year. if we trade up it will be in the 13-28 range and the talent pool for are needs will be low by then..and nexts years draft prob will be better talent wise

we did not have a tough schedule last year..and draft picks are never overrated..FA are

it's easy to look back and say it wasn't tough, but that wasn't the consensus before the season started...

...much like the upcoming season. i remember all the hooplah on the huddle about carolina winning 9-10 games tops.`

picks for this draft class are overrated.

Neither one of us said that we would trade next years first for a first round pick this year. We both only said that we very well may trade next year's first. I said that I could see them trading next years first to get more picks this year (i.e. rounds 2-5).

    • The difference is about how much player input is allowed and encouraged in the decision making process. Top down teams tend to dictate to players how everything is handled. Disagreements are handled by the coach and players are expected to do what they are told regardless of what they think or feel.  Players are perceived as commodities to be used until we find better. In player led teams player input is encouraged and valued. Players and especially leaders are expected to settle their own disagreements and be accountable to the team but mostly to each other. Players are family to be appreciated and supported in their growth. Is the reality of football the same in both? Yeah there are limited positions, football is a business and winning is the bottom line. Coaches get final say and run the program because that is their job. But in player led teams they feel valued, appreciated, part of a larger whole. Most people who have worked at multiple jobs know exactly what I am talking about. When players try to run the show and don't value  coach input that isn't a player led team, that is a circus which we surely are familiar with in our past.
    • For our pics and trades tonight and tmrw.  Remember, Aho was a 2nd rounder and Slavin was a 4th rounder.
    • Seems to be the consensus from the talking heads. I really wish we had double dipped at center in the 2nd round. Sion will never play in the league.
