Bears ST coach Dave Toub

..is currently unemployed.

Obviously ST was a nightmare and has been for quite a while(yes I'm aware we had some serious depth issues due to injuries to our starters but still...) and it has to be looked at.

Apparently the Bears low balled Dave Toub(didn't even offer him enough money to put him in the top 10 in the NFL for ST coaches) so he is exploring his options now. I just read he's interviewing for the Miami HC job but there is virtually 0% chance he lands that.

I hope we at least give him a look. Would be a GREAT hire.

hell yeah. bears special teams are top of the line. if we got him it'd be an instant upgrade.

i'm also willing to bet he'd want a stud KR to work with, which would make going after ginn jr. in free agency a realistic possibility. pilares is decent but we can do much better.

the thing about the Bears ST is.. everyone thinks it's all due to Hester, but their blocking is fuging phenomenal and their coverage is insane. They were #2 in the league this year at 5.4 yards per punt return allowed compared to our 13.3 yards allowed per punt. WOW, I didn't realize it was THAT bad hahaahaha

Special teams improved GREATLY over the year. Especially in the second half. You can make all the coaching changes you want but at the end of the day, it has a lot to do with the personnel you have on your ST units.

Exactly, If the guys on special teams are dumbfugs then their gonna make the ST coach look like a dumb fug. Its all about execution and knowing your damn assignment when it comes to special teams. The ST coach can only lead them in the right direction its up the players to believe in what he's teaching.

So you are saying the coach doesn't matter? I'm putting my application in tomorrow to all 32 teams!

Seriously, coaches do make a difference. Give Scotty O'Brien and Danny Crossman the same rosters and you would see totally different results.

I don't think Rivera makes any changes in staff, but to say Toub would not make a difference is wrong, imo.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
