Falcons 2008 NFC South division champs?

Yeah i recalled hearing him say it once, I was quite annoyed. I made a post in the schedule topic about it.

Such a slap in the face. He was so used to slobbering all over their junk he forgot who the actual division champs were. There was such much press on them it pretty much doesn't matter who wins the division.

It's something we will have to put up with for a long time now, as far these douchebags know the division is between the falcons/saints no matter what.

It's just the worst kind of journalism. Make these men actually earn their salaries instead of just standing up there talking out of their asses, your previous NFL fame should only carry you so far.

Seriously it's these guy's job to know football, how do they mess poo up like that? If we know who all the champs were and we all have jobs, school, families, friends, other hobbies..etc., it shouldn't be that hard.

There are only 8 teams in the nfl that are division champs, it's not that hard to remember!!!!

I guess we should be used to it by now, it seems like the Panthers are slighted in some way every time they are brought up by the national media. Did you notice that immediately after the Panthers "state of the franchise" on NFLN they played a clip as an intro to the interview with Samari Rolle showing him pick off Jake 3x and mock Muhammad's TD celebration....

Our franchise is a joke right now, guys. We turned the ball over six times in one of the most embarrassing playoff games in NFL history. We have to earn any respect we get ten fold, and for a reason. Plus, we're small market.

While most of the guys on TV basically wing it and don't do their homework, his comment that the Falcons won the NFCS is very telling.

It speaks to the fact that Atlanta's performance was so noticeable that he assumed they won the division, and ours was basically forgettable - especially that playoff embarrassment.

Unfortunately our schedule is tougher this year, one of the toughest in the NFL according to ESPN.

I heard them say the Falcons were the 2008 NFC South division champions at least 2x on the NFL network schedule special.... :confused:

Just watched my recording of it. Solomon Wilcots said it once and that was it.

I mean the NFL gave ATL one SNF, one MNF and one non-west coast 4pm game.

The Panthers got one SNF, one MNF, one Thursday, and two non-west 4pm games.

So at least the schedulers gave the Panthers more respect

The entire fortune of the 2009 falcons depends on three things

1. Michael Turner's Health - When a RB hits 390 carries, as shown here, their carries the following year generally decline by about fifty percent, if you remove the Ricky Williams outlier. Turner was right there at 400 if you include the playoffs, which is an absolutely insane number to give any running back in today's nfl. Falcons fans would be foolish to be hopeful that he'll be able to contribute the exact same way in 09 as he did in 08.

2. Matt Ryan - Even though he faded down the stretch, Ryan was pretty good. However, now there's a year of tape on him, their cutesy little offense isn't going to surprise anyone, and they go up against the AFC and NFC East instead of the NFC North and AFC West. Those are monumental differences, in terms of calibre of coach, team, organization, and personnel.

3. The Defense - Their defense is atrocious, there is an embarrassing lack of starting talent on it, and the fact that they didn't give up 40 points a game last year is an act of god. They need to have the greatest draft in franchise history to find a LB, C, S, DT, and DE. Quite honestly they should go BPA defense in every single round and hope for the best.

      The "now it's been three years" Grade for the 2023 Draft

      Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
