When the time comes, will Cam Newton be the highest paid QB in the game?

I could see him getting a Jay Cutler type deal maybe. He signed a 5 year 49mil deal w/ 20 guaranteed.

But of course as usual...WAY early for this.

Cam is gonna want more than that, his rookie contract was pretty much nothing compared to other QB's gone first overall, I could see 60-70 million, with 35 guaranteed.

we'll see. It's so early that this talk is really silly, because we have no idea how is going to perform.

Sam Bradford's deal less than two years ago was six-year, $78 million contract with $50 million in guaranteed money... Cam's current deal is four year 22 mill guaranteed. IMO he has ALREADY outperformed his rookie contract

Bradford's deal means nothing, and unless he steps it up this year, he'll never see another deal like that again.

When the cap takes a huge jump in 2014, contracts will as well. If Newton is seen as a top 5 guy at that point he will get 20-23 million a year. We could see more like a 6 year 130 million contract with 60 million guaranteed. Still way too early to say though.

With this guy shattering and breaking many major rookie QB records, if all does is continue to improve I find it hard for him to not become the highest QB in the game. I think if by next year he continues to produce monster records then his four year 22 million deal would need to be redone since he has already outperformed that

I dont agree with the early raise based on the outperforming the contract theory.

When NFL players suck they never give money back. If Cam continues to perform and improve we're lucky to enjoy the first Rookie Cap #1 pick contract in league history. Maybe after the 3rd year look at extending or during the final year of his contract. If he wants to stay in Carolina he'll sign then, otherwise it will be the Franchise tag etc, etc, etc.

And was a ridiculously high number to pay a rookie when they could easily be Jamarcuss Russell or Ryan Leaf.

The new CBA cured this problem, rokie players must now earn massive contracts.

Get to work Cam. We all want to see him succeed, win playoff games and reap the rewards on and off the field.

So are we talking biggest contract in NFL history?

Young phenom whose changing the game, most important position in all of sports..

10 yr, 140 mil?

14 million a year?? Way too low. Vick got a 10 year 130 million year contract in 2004. You think all Cam would get would be another 10 million a decade later? Vick got a 6 year 100 million contract last summer which averaged 16 million. Way too early to speculate but you guys are way too low if you are thinking biggest contract in the NFL. Brees will likely get a 6 year 120 million contract this year.
