Just spoke to Gil Brandt about panthers draft

So I called into NFL Radio's "late hits" with Gil Brandt who they call the "Godfather".

I asked him about my 2 favorite potential prospects(Jenkins and Jeffery) for us and 2 others(Coples and Still) I wanted to know more about.

His favorite was definetly Coples. He says he wouldn't mind using a top 5 pick on Coples if he knew for sure that he would play hard on every down as he has a tendency to slack of a little.

Next Favorite was Jeffery, thinks he would be a good pick at 8 or 9 and says he has great size and playmaking ability. Biggest thing for him to secure a spot that high will be his timed speed at the combine.

Thinks Janoris Jenkins is a great player as well but thinks he will go in the 15-20 range.

Mentioned that Devon Still's uncle was Art Still and seems to think thats way to high of a pick for him.

I wish he would have elaborated more on each players ability, or his scouting report of each but oh well.

btw heres a link to his top 100 for those who dont visit the draft forum

i don't care where he has him ranked. i care about why.

why so hung up about jeffery?

I like him alot, so sue me. I am not a fan of any college team so i'm not being a homer. I just think he would be a very effective weapon for Cam and despite whatever speed issues people say he has, theres plenty of video evidence on youtube to suggest its not a problem. I like the fact that he's proven he can go against top rated corners, be doubled and tripled and still be produce very well.

The reason I like him and Jenkins is because they have both proven to be elite at the college level against other top tier talent. I know its an unpopular opinion on here but i'm not looking for pie or rep. I like discussing the panthers when i'm bored and this is the best place to do it.

Jeffrey's speed wasn't an issue in college, (unless you call getting run down from behind by LB's a problem) but it very well could be in the NFL.

If you pair Alshon with Cam in our offense I see no reason he can't be as good as Plaxico Burress in his prime. Coincidentally Plax was taken 8th overall by the steelers in 2000.

    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
