Should we resign Jeremy Shockey?

I found an article from a website called footballauthority.com Here is the link

It pretty much says that Shockey may not be available to us if he wants a multi-year deal and that we might decide to draft a TE if he doesn't resign. I also didn't know that we paid him 3.2 million to sign with us, I honestly thought it was a vet min or maybe about a million dollar contract. The article also says that the Tight Ends helped Cam out a lot and that we have no #2 if Shockey leaves. They say Hartsock is a blocker which I agree and Barnidge has only caught 12 passes. I do think Barnidge has a lot of potential with our offensive coordinators appreciation with tight ends I mean does anyone remember how Barnidge can make the big plays?

Anyways since news is kinda slow right now why not discuss what you think about the Shockey Situation?

I say re-sign him if we can get a 1 year deal for a good price otherwise give Barnidge a chance. Worst case scenario is that he is an average TE so we won't loose too much and I don't think we should draft a TE unless its in the late rounds because we need to fix our defense. I don't think a number 2 tight end is going to be what is the difference between us being a winning and a loosing team.

If he wants a multi-year deal no way, too injury prone for that.

I don't think hes that injury prone I mean yes he has missed about 3 games every season but he plays hard and Tight ends can last a long time look at Gonzo.

in the past 10 years he has only had one season where he missed more than 5 games and that was his second season. then he played 15 games the next three seasons then 14 games then he switched to NO where he only played 12 games then 13,13 and then played 15 here. I don't know if he sat out any of the last games of the season on years he played for a play off team. I must say not too bad for a physical TE that takes a lot of hard hits.

No question... I'd give him a two-year deal in a heart beat. In a lot of ways he out played Olsen this season.

I agree. It seemed that Olsen dropped off the last few games. Maybe he was playing injured but in the last 5 games he had only 5 catches for 68 yds. and 1 td. the last three games he only had 2 catches for 15 yards. WTF happened to him? If he wants to be the #1 TE on the team then he can't play like that. I have a feeling that we will have another TE if Barnidge doesn't work out next season.

I believe I was the first here to make a thread saying we should re-sign him early in the season... From everything that I've gathered from what Rivera has said, and IIRC, what JR said about Shock as a teammate/leader, then, I believe we should and will re-sign him.

I believe that we need to have great leaders to help lead our young team when they need it. I think a good mix of young talent and veteran leadership can pay off big. Look at teams like the Packers last year they had a lot of young talent but had a few good leaders like Driver, Woodson, Clifton, Ect. We can be that team if we can play our cards right.

    • I hope not. 3rd-5th round QB's are historically awful. Most of the time that team is just drafting another QB in the first the following year. Look at the Saints, if they continue to suck this year they are just taking a QB. And if they do they just threw away a 2nd round pick that they just drafted. We did the same poo with Clausen, Greer, Pike, that guy we drafted a few years ago who is so irrelevant I forgot his name...  Just take a 1st round QB if Bryce isn't the answer and be prepared to live with it
    • This reminds me on Madden where you create an alternate uniform and the pre-recorded voice overs talk about how hideous your uniform looks. 🤣
    • There are people on this forum that just want to see a lot of passing yards....number go up. That's all it is, really. They are thirsting for a 350-400 yard game. The idea that Jameis Winston is going to come in and play like a star and lead us to wins is ludacris. He's the 3rd fuging string for a 2-5 team and has played horrible for years now. Sure, passing numbers will go up but you'll also get a lot of dumb plays, pick 6's, and incompletions en route to a frustrating bad offensive performance, just in a different way. I think these people are yearning for another Delhomme situation, and the odds of that happening are very very slim. It's way more likely Howell or Jameis comes in and looks like Jack Plummer or Andy Dalton did in the preseason. There just isn't that much good quarterbacking in this league right now. And if we draft another QB in the first round, there is a good chance they bust. It's not a guaranteed carrot. The reality is, as mediocre as Bryce has been, the risk of bringing someone else in in-season and releasing Bryce becuase you aren't happy with his current performance is staggeringly high. Don't want to re-up his contract and search for a solution in the offseason? Sure, I'm on board. Bryce hasn't been good enough to warrant a second contract. But It is very. very unlikely that bringing someone else in midseason is going to give this team more wins.
