so we cut the only proven and solid OG on the roster to spend a top 10 pick on someone to take his place...meanwhile we still hurt at RG and RT and DT and CB and OLB and FS.

sorry. bad idea.

ignoring a need because someone is listed as the overall BPA is a bit silly to me.

Decastro in my mind is unquestionably the best OL guy in this class. He's a phenomenal player.

Some people hate the idea of drafting a Guard in the first, but if you had a chance to have Steve Hutchinson on your roster or the next ten years, only a dummy would turn it down.

That said, I'd still rather address one of our more dire positions of need as long as the value is there. While Decastro would address a need, he'd be more of a BPA type guy than a need filler.

it depends on 1) what you had to bypass in the draft to grab that elite OG 2) what weaknesses would still be addressed that will have to make due with inferior choices 3) what options are available at OG that would still be an upgrade over what you have.

also, what guarantee is there that he would be a legendary OG/future HoFer, 10+ year player?

i might be a dummy, but just not 100% sold on doing that.

i agree about addressing the more dire areas of need, though, and hope that i stumble upon a later round/ edfa OT draft pick that can move inside and become our jahri evans or carl nicks. it's cheaper to go that route, imo. it might take a little longer, but it would be worth it. just rely on scouting and development. try to get an oline that can stay together for a few years and develop chemistry. that is the #1 thing that is needed on the oline, btw.

We give someone the Julio Jones hookup: get Jonathon Martin, David DeCastro in the 1st and Coby Fleener as a big FUG YOU to Luck
and we'd still lose games because the defense couldn't stop anyone.

at least we'd have the best Oline in the world or something.

I would like to see what Byron Bell could do at RG. (Assuming Otah came back healthy) Two run mauling machines on the right side, with our running game, would put a gigantic smile on my face. Ultimately, something will have to be done about Wharton's contract.

I think Bell's natural position is gaurd. (At least that is what he was listed under on the official page throughout the season) Remember, Wharton was a tackle coming in his rookie season, and was eventually moved to gaurd. I think Bell has more potential than Wharton.
