Two coaching gaffes inside last 2 minutes

And, if Brady had brought them down the field and scored, the NY press would have crucified Coughlin for running the ball into the end zone and not keeping control of the game by just taking 3 straight knees and kicking FG with no time left.

I still don't get why people keep saying Belichick shouldn't have let him score. Which do you think has a better chance of happening:

- An 18 yard field goal being missed/blocked/botched snap (shorter than an extra point and XPs have a 99% conversion rate)

or

- Tom Brady going 80 yards in 53 seconds with 1 timeout

If you don't think Belichick was right, you don't really get football. The only people questioning Belichick at the party I was at were women and the guys that didn't follow football that closely.

The first play after the 2 minute warning the Giants were on the 18. You don't let a team score from 18 yards out.

You do if you want to win a Super Bowl. What is the difference in wasting one timeout and one full minute and then "letting" them score? Oh yeah, winning the game.

The Belecik mystique would have gone through the roof if he had let them score and Brady subsequently went down the field and won the game. Belecik would have been the coaching god this morning.

And what if instead of scoring they fall on the one? What if the Pats let them score then Brady throws an int? Hell what if the Pats defense did their job and held the Giants to a field goal? Point is, the what if game is stupid. Up by 2 trying to hold the opponent to 3 points is the right call.

That like saying, let them score from their own 20 with 4 minutes left, that way we can milk the clock and make sure we score last.

You don't get it. Think about what you just wrote.

If the Pats hold them to a field goal, they still LOSE by a point. And with no time left.

A loss is a loss.

The Pats figured it out with one minute to go and let em score. If they had let them score at 2 minute warning instead, they would have had an extra timeout and a full minute extra and Brady would have probably won the game.

I don't think they were in a goal to go situation so that makes no sense what-so-ever.

All the player would have done is just fallen down past the 1st down maker and opposed to giving the giants a possible 4 downs to take time off of the clock they would have given them 5.

2 minutes left in the game and the Pats have two timeouts. If the Patriots stop the Giants from getting a first down they have no time outs but at least a minute for Brady to get into field goal range. The fact that you think the Giants could somehow run the entire clocks if the Pats got a stop show you are the one who doesn't get it.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
