Is Steve Smith a Hall of Famer right now?

This season he became only the 35th player in NFL history to have over 10,000 receiving yards. In 2005 he was the first player since Sterling Sharpe in 1992 to earn the "Triple Crown" with most receiving yards, receptions and receiving TDs. He is a five time Pro-Bowler and three time All-Pro.

So what do you think? If he were to retire today, would he get in Canton?

I would like to say yes, but hopefully with a few more years it will be a no-brainer.

No, Steve will not get in unless he wins a superbowl. When you look at the WR who still havent gotten in, like Cris Carter and Tim Brown, then it wont happen for Smith until they get in, but by that point you will have guys like Larry Fitzgerald coming up. So unless steve keeps this pace up for the next 5 years and wins a superbowl or two, I dont see him making it

Cris Carter has almost 14,000 yards, 130 TDs and was an 8 time pro-bowler. While he has been a finalist several times, he has not gotten in.

When Smith surpasses these numbers then he is in the mix.

Yeah Steve Smith picked a bad time frame to be a good to great WR.

It is historically difficult for WR's to get into the HoF. There are a number of snubs as others have said. Smith would have to play for 3-4 more years and get 1000-1500 each year with about 6-12 TD's per season to be considered. He is a very good WR, and had he been on a team that wasn't as conservative for the majority of his career he would be more likely to get it.

No way he can, sadly. He's better than a lot of guys that might get in, but he was stuck in a bad situation with the usual run heavy sh*tty QB team we have had.

Unless he posts 1200+ yards and 10 TDs a season for 4-5 years, I can't see it happening.

Not with all these other receivers lurking. Even people like Boldin, Driver, Wayne, Mason, Ward, etc may have been as good over their careers as Steve has, but they all have similar/better numbers.

As for Smith specifically, politics and character issues sometimes factor in as well. As much as we love him, he is considered a thug, trash talker and showboat to many folks around the league. That dooesn't always play well if he is on the cusp or a marginal candidate.

Character issues for the HoF are not a major issue if the person rehabilitates themselves near the end of their career. There are plenty of guys in the HoF who don't have crystal clean careers but what they do after retiring is taken into account as well.

    • If it’s all the same to you guys, I’d like to use this thread for Tuesday nights game as well to keep this hate going. I have a feeling Tuesday vs the panthers is going to be violent in that arena.    @LinvilleGorgecan you please add “and Tuesday” to the game thread?  They play the Panthers again Tuesday. Thank you sir!
    • Nobody on the huddle is saying we have an elite group offensively across the board. They aren't great. They're young. If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
