hall of fame lineman speaks out against JR

Football is a dangerous sport, they actually thought some people wouldn't suffer the consequences? Retired players are just looking for some sort of cash-in from the NFL because they've spent all their money.

agreed and big cat is doing more than any other owner for the old players

You know who else is a pre '93 player? Jerry Richardson... Do you see him whining about his pension? No, he went out there and worked hard at other things and now he makes more money via the NFL by means other than simply sitting at home collecting a check from them every month...

DeLamielleure’s monthly pension, combined with his share of the “Legacy Fund,” is meager compared to today's players.

"I get a total of $2,100 for 13 years in the league. You gotta realize, nobody plays 13 years. That's before taxes,” said DeLamielleure.

The NFL released this statement to Newschannel 36: "Jerry Richardson, as co-chair of the NFL labor committee, helped negotiate $1 billion in improvements for former players in the new CBA, including $620 million in increased pension payments for pre-1993 players."

"We used to have sub-poverty pension. Now, with this new agreement, we're up to poverty," DeLamielleure responded.

DeLamielleure and at least 300 other former players are also suing the NFL and Riddell. They claim the league and the helmets did not protect them against head injury.

"We didn't know this. We had no clue. We were like the cigarette smokers of the 50's," DeLamielleure said.

DeLamielleure believes the league he and others helped build has turned its back on him.

legit arguments, imo, considering how much the sport has gorwn on the backs, knees, and brain injuries of players that often times had to take second jobs to play a full season to support their families and who now can't work at all because of chronic health problems brought on by an industry that didn't know what the long term effects of injuries would be.

yeah, they chose to be in it for the love of the game, but who could have known how much they would be giving up long term?

if ever you wonder why the game is getting wussified, look at those long term health related problems and the lawsuits that are following. those players that are complaining about the rules now are going to be grateful later on for them when they realize how much better off/healthier they are than their predecessors. they need to quit bitching and be grateful that they are getting paid a whole lot more, will be lasting longer in the league, and should not have nearly the health problems that they would have had otherwise.

btw...i didn't say they were owed anymore than what they are getting. i just think they have a valid argument.

i think the owners are doing a lot better in helping them out than they were in the past but i think it's more that they are making it better for those who will be leaving in the future rather than those who left 10-20 years ago.

He also walked away from the NFL because he didn't feel like he was being paid enough, then got lucky flipping burgers.

I feel for these guys, but I find it hard to believe that they didn't know ramming their heads into each other might have negative effects on their health long-term.

Having said that, the NFL can afford to do more - so they should. Not sure why JR is targeted in this except for the fact that he was the chairman, that doesn't mean the decision was all his.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
