Should we get Alshon Jeffrey in the 5th round??

Hate to link PFT, but Mayock has some of the same concerns....

“Alshon Jeffery does not separate,” said Mayock after watching Gamecocks tape. “What those guys run [at the Combine] is important. He needs to run somewhere in those mid-4.5s.”

The article is titled "Alshon Jeffrey not worth a first round pick..." but I don't think I'd risk a 2nd round pick on him either, too many questions.

Every great play I ever saw him make was him going up to get the ball over defenders. That's a great ability to have and if a guy is good enough at it, he's a great guy to have on your team (Colston anyone?).

Problem is, from what I observed, he HAD to always go up over people because he couldn't create space with his route running or speed. Probably doesn't help if he is fat as sh*t right now either.

He looked like a pregnant manatee in the picture posted earlier in the thread.

Yeah. They just did "draft lab" on Sportscenter and both Mel and McShay both said that Jeffery was biggest risk of all the tight ends and wide receivers and needs a good combine to stay in first round and could end up being a tight end if he doesn't keep his weight down and his speed up.

But if we do go WR with our second pick it looks like a lot of good guys may be there. Quick (2nd may be a little early), Dwight Jones, possibly AJ if he poos the combine.

yeah, i saw that too, my only issue is i just cant see teams letting him fall THAT far. a team will take him just on his play and talent alone, now i dont see him in round one unless he gets his weight in check and improves his speed, but i do see him in round 2, low risk, high reward type because if the risk pays off, then you got a 1st round talent in the 2nd round, if by some miracle he does go to round 5, than that's the biggest steal in the draft. i think Floyd goes higher, though i have worries on him too. the top 2 WRs in my draft board are Blackmon (star in the making) and Kendall Wright (speedster).

I like Wright a lot also.

lol at you morons.

Ooooh burn!! He lost like 30 pounds and ran a good time at his pro day. Good for him. If he would have weighed 249 and ran a 4.69 40 like the original report (albeit false) had said he would not have been drafted until the later rounds.

My title was tongue in cheek but the USC..... i'm sorry the Carolina.... oops, ummm... the Cocks, crowd got all butthurt about it.

What this proved is that people, on this board due to their collegiate alliances or whatever reason, had already made up their mind about Jeffery. They sought any opportunity to attack him, and did not care if what they were raving about was false.

4.38 for a 213 lb guy who has the best hands in the draft is incredible. Validated his spot as one of the best in this class.

What it proved is that he lost @30 pounds and ran a good time. So now you have to wonder why he wasn't in that type of shape in college. Why didn't he play at 213? What does that say about his work ethic going forward? If you draft him is he going to play at 239 or 213? Is he going to stay in shape or let himself go once he gets drafted?

He will get drafted high and deservedly so, but he now has a whole new box of questions he is going to need to answer about why he hasn't been in this kind of shape all along.

But I am happy for him and would love to pick him up in the second if he is still there, which now is less likely he will be.
