American Idol 2012

Idol has been fairly successful in finding talent. I mean, not so many huge stars, but a lot of moderate success.

seriously?

41 Grammy nominations including 9 wins

The top 3 on this list have almost 30 millions albums sold and 26 Platinum awards between them and that's just 3 people

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idol_alumni_album_sales

As of 2012, the American Idol alumni in their post-Idol careers have amassed over 57 million albums and 92 million singles and digital track downloads in the United States alone.

I know a lot of folks don't like the show and that's fine, but to act like they haven't turned out bona fide mega stars is just false on its face.

I was arguing against the people who say Idol alumni never have success... I love the show and the people who came from the show. What I was saying is that not every winner goes on to have huge success, but even those that you might not hear much of still have moderate success in their respective genres.

I think the women on average are a stronger group.

Holly Cavanaugh, Elise Tatone, and the baseball daughter were the strongest of the girls.

Philip Philips was surprisingly good to me and Joshua was awesome.

Too bad the boys don't have David Leathers and the kid from Florida with the wierd eyes...and girls could have used Ariel Sprague. Oh well.

Ranking the idol alums:

1) Kelly Clarkson (She has to get credit for the being the OG and still being able to sell a lot of records)

2) Carrie Underwood

3) J-Hud (I think shes passed Daughtry as far as visibility)

4) Daughtry

5) Kellie Pickler- I have heard none of her music, but I think shes doing well in the country scene

6) Fantasia- she doesn't get a lot of mainstream attention, but she does well in the R&B scene. 7 Grammy Noms & Won her first grammy last year. (argument for her in front of pickler, but Kellie is on TV more)

7) Jordin Sparks

I'm a long time and completely unapologetic fan of the show. That said, last nights broadcast was an unmitigated failure. Picking a favorite would be akin to choosing the best car at the junkyard.

Even the good performances were boring.

Last night marked the last time we will ever watch the show live again.

Sad but true. All but two or three guys were awful, and even the decent ones weren't that great.

Haven't watched the girls yet.

Side Note: Donald Driver is in this year's Dancing with the Stars (got a pretty hot partner chick too).

As a whole, very underwhelming performances on both nights. And what makes it worse is how the judges go so easy on them "You know what man, that was so beautiful, you missed a few notes here and there, but you have such a beautiful voice. Everyone is so beautiful..." Simon would put all of these kids in their respective places--it's just not good enough. I know this is the first live show, but there's been plenty of past contestants who killed it the first time.

Except for only a couple...they were all giving high praises. I think that Eber kid's voice was so weak it was embarrassing to everyone. I just think the judges give a pass for the first week. Expect them to escalate criticism as people tire of people who get boring, predictable, and stale.

    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46683459/2025-nfl-offseason-tiers-32-teams-best-worst-signings-trades-draft-barnwell Slightly above expectations Highlights: Trading WR Adam Thielen, signing RB Rico Dowdle (one year, $2.8 million), drafting fifth-round TE Mitchell Evans   Disappointments: Re-signing CB Mike Jackson (two years, $10.5 million)   The Panthers chose the right time to move on from Thielen, who had been productive in Carolina before being dealt to Minnesota just before the season. He has been lost in the shuffle there. While the Panthers won't see the fourth-round pick that forms the bulk of the return for Thielen until 2027, getting out from what was owed to a player who has 47 receiving yards in Minnesota is an easy victory. Dowdle has been a revelation since moving into the starting lineup after Chuba Hubbard's injury, becoming one of a handful of players in NFL history to produce consecutive 200-yard scrimmage games. The former Cowboys back was averaging 3 yards per carry before the opportunity, so I'm not sure I would count on him playing like Jim Brown the rest of the way in a rotational role alongside Hubbard. But it's hard to argue that Carolina hasn't already gotten its $2.8 million worth out of the 27-year-old back. Most of Carolina's biggest moves are either tracking to be right around expectation (drafting wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan) or have been impacted by unexpected injuries (signing defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton). Jackson was a pleasant surprise as a starter in 2024, and he hasn't been terrible this season, but most of the big plays against Carolina have come on throws against the former Seahawks cornerback. Overall, though, this has been a very reasonable offseason for the Panthers
    • How would you have taken the guy who was picked ahead of us? That makes no sense.
    • I am not denying that things were said. That wasn’t my point. But carry on this will go nowhere.    Oh snap, the post calling him a liar was like three posts before you jumped in.  what do you get, a post a page?
