RISERS and FALLERS

MHS831

Recommended Posts

The draft is more than 2 months away, and we have yet to have the combine.

Who do you see as the players who will rise and fall the most between now and the draft?

I will name a few:

Risers

Janoris Jenkins. CB. CB is too important for a talent like JJ to be bypassed. He will interview well at the combine. I think he goes top 12.

Michael Brockers. DT. He is considered a reach at 9 in many mocks, and I think he will be a top 5 talent by April. Due to need, the Panthers should get a shot.

Kendall Wright. WR. Wright has versatility, fire, toughess, hands and speed. He is going to be better than Floyd, and minus the baggage, will be the second WR taken. I think he could also be a top 12 selection.

Alshon Jeffrey. WR. Operating under the assumption that he is rumored to be out of shape and slow (4.9 range 40), I think he will prove that he is not a fifth rounder as some have suggested. He will probably go to a team early in the second round. This is actually a huge fall from January, but the reaction to the rumor will prove to be overly done, and a team will take him before the 45th pick.

Ryan Tannehill. QB He should work out well at the combine and his pro day--he has the skill set and tools to be good, but so did Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, etc. He is a second round talent who will go early to a team like Seattle.

Fallers

Vontaze Burfict MLB. Even though MLBs are in short supply in this draft, teams will avoid Mr. Personal Foul even more when they realize his skills are limited. Maybe he goes in the 3rd round to Baltimore, so Ray Lewis can yank a few knots in his head.

Trent Richardson RB. A top 5 talent, the devaluation of RBs could hurt him. I do not see him slipping past Cincinnati at 17, but if a team like Tampa Bay or Miami lets him slop through the top 10, he could land in the second half of the first round.

Please hack these opinions and add some names yourself.

D. Poe- People will be surprised by him. I think he will rise high and be off the board before the 15th pick.

__________

Justin Blackmon: Not to say he's over rated. But I think he will fall. Possibly to us at 8/9.

Good call. Forgot about him,

I agree with your assessment of Burfict. Even though I think he has the potential to be a great MLB going and learning and being mentored by Lewis is the best thing that could happen to him. Another Faller would be Taamu he was at one point considered a lock in the middle of the 1st now he is projected to be a late 2nd-3rd pick.

CB

Riser Leonard Johnson

Faller Dre Kirkpatrick

DT

Riser Brockers

Faller Tamuu

OT

Riser Osemele

Faller Datko

DE

Riser Ingram

Faller Mercilius

WR

Riser Criner

Faller Jeffries

Ingram is a good one. I see him going first half of round 1.

Darkhorse risers that nobody has really heard of (players I hope the Panthers have on radar):

Demario Davis, OLB (Maybe we draft a Davis to back up TDavis and Markelle Martin to compete with Sherrod Martin.)

Devon Wylie, WR (on paper, he mirrors Steve Smith as a senior at Utah--same size, same speed, same success returning punts. In person, he looks more like Wes Welker. Either way, I like)

Riser:

OLB- Terrelle Manning (Surprised a lot of people by leaving a year early, had potential to be a very high pick in 2013 if he returned. Most are projecting 4th round or so now, but he's going to blow up at the combine & in personal workouts. I could see him getting up as high as the 2nd round)

Faller:

WR- Brian Quick (He has the measurables, but I think teams will eventually shy away and he'll fall further than expected because of the unknown based on the competition he's faced. The recent failures of fellow high round App State receivers Dexter Jackson and Armanti Edwards won't help his cause.)

love Brockers rising and possibly landing at 9th to my Panthers..Dude is a BEAST.But i see SC S. Gilmore/CB falling to the panthers with the 2nd rnd pick with the Rise of J. Jenkins. I think those two first picks will be enough to get us at a solid defense....Jenkins is solid in man but plays best in zone coverage...Look Out!!!!

Yeah, I love this pick for us #40? if he's still there. He's a little tall for the 3-4 teams to use as nose tackle, but when I see comparisons to Ngata I want him here.

Risers the guys that run fast and look imposing in shorts and seem to have the look ie Brockers,Couples,Ingram and Zach Brown. If Ingram can run a 4.6 watch his tock rise.

Losers Slow wr and rbs,Trent Richardson (I dont think teams want to waste a top 10 pick on a rb anymore)

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
