Post Combine First Round Prospects at 9

Pejorative Miscreant

Recommended Posts

Now that the workouts have concluded, I want to take stock of a few of the mockj draft selections that seemed to be popular over the past couple of months.

1. Michael Brockers: Was the pick du jour entering the combine but I think he could be classified as a reach and no longer a top ten pick based on the pedestrian performance.

2. Devon Still: Most on this board had already written him off and pushed him down on the list of prospects. Nothing has changed.

3. Dre Kirkpatrick: I think Dre was pretty solid at the combine and given the poor performance turned in by Brockers, he may find his way albeit reluctantly, back in peoples draft conversations.

4. Blackmon/Claiborne: Sorry. Still don't see the math on how either one will fall to 9.

5. Coples: Same story as Kirkpatrick. I think he comes back into conversations.

6. Ingram: Provides immediate help for the defense. Not a terrible combine.

7. Reiff: Stiff and Tight. Dont think he is on the radar.

8. Trade: Draftopia. Almost everyone's wish and will be a what if until draft night.

By process of elimination I see the pick being Kirkpatrick Coples or Ingram. Things can change but if we had to pick today I think it would be one of those guys.

either coples or kirk. or even janoris jenkins.

in my opinion ingram = brandon graham a few year back.. same body type and suppose to be a real pass rusher

I keep hearing that if Cleveland deals with St. Louis, Washington will take.....Tannehill at #6. I think there will also be a shocker, someone like Ingram to Miami or Michael Floyd to Jax. Something like that. The point is, someone good could fall to us--you never know.

If Peyton is released and becomes a factor, there are all sorts of implications for our draft pick. Washington and Miami have been mentioned as contenders.

I like all these possibilities you've listed actually. If Jacksonville can take Tyson Alualu at 7, they sure as hell can take Michael Floyd there. They've already invested in Gabbert, now they need to surround him with weapons. Miami's also an interesting one, especially if they get Manning/Flynn. I mean, what are their remaining needs? 43 DE and RT are about it. Reiff may not be there and they may not get a trade partner. Either way, history has shown that these shockers happen every year, between the 7-10 range. Heck, we can be part of it.

Its actually nice we have such a wide crop to select from knowing that we finally have a fuggin power offense in place.

I'm damn happy people are finally starting to recognize Cox. Cox + Hosley would be a great 1st and 2nd round combo imo.

Cox, Kirkpatrick, Poe, Reiff, Brockers, Jenkins...that's where I'm looking

Well this is what Rivera said which I think is telling:

“Not just necessarily the corner, but the pass rush,” he said when asked about draft priorities. “I think you have to have pass rush. You have to put pressure on the quarterback, as well. So I think it’s a combination or a mixture of both.”
