Guy couldn't even keep a job in the CFL.. we pick Kickers like the Lions pick Recievers or the Browns pick QBs

I personally think we should teach Armanti how to kick. Got to be something he can do.

UCLA kicker Justin Medlock was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of being involved in an alcohol-related accident on the San Diego Freeway in Inglewood that left a member of the women's golf team with serious spinal injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.

Medlock, a junior recently named second team all-Pacific 10 Conference and considered an NFL prospect, rolled his pickup truck in the northbound lanes of the freeway about 3 a.m. and walked away from the crash, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jodi Legarra said. Inglewood police arrested him on Florence Avenue, about 1 1/2 miles from the accident scene.

His passenger, Hannah Jun, was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where she was treated for broken vertebra in her neck. Hospital officials declined to provide information about her condition. Medlock was treated at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital for a swollen eye, cut lip and chest pain before he was taken to jail.

The 22-year-old kicker was booked into the sheriff's Inmate Reception Center on suspicion of felony drunk driving causing injury and felony hit-and-run, Legarra said. He was released from jail about 9 p.m. after posting bail, a sheriff's spokeswoman said. Bail had been set at $100,000.

Medlock crashed his 1998 Toyota Tacoma into a call box north of Manchester Boulevard before the truck rolled and ended up on its roof on a freeway onramp, Legarra said.

When officers arrived, Jun's body was partially dangling from the truck. Medlock, who smelled of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test, told officers that he had been drinking with friends in Newport Beach, CHP Officer Dale Horne said.

Jun, 20, is a junior from San Diego who attended Torrey Pines High. She recently qualified to play on the Futures Tour by tying for 21st in the qualifying tournament in Florida.

Medlock's arrest comes as the No. 17-ranked Bruins prepare to play Northwestern Dec. 30 in the Sun Bowl in El Paso.

Based on how UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell handled off-the-field alcohol-related incidents two years ago, it's probable that Medlock will be suspended for at least the bowl game, though UCLA officials would not comment. One official did say he expected Medlock to be suspended.

In his first season at UCLA in 2003, Dorrell suspended quarterback John Sciarra and cornerback Marcus Cassel for alcohol-related incidents. Sciarra was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and public intoxication and providing a false name to a police officer. Cassel was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.

Earlier this season, Dorrell talked about his team's discipline policy.

"We remind our young student-athletes all of the time that they not only represent themselves and their families but also the university," Dorrell said.

Over the last two seasons, Medlock has stepped up as a reliable kicker for the Bruins, making 28 of 37 field-goal attempts. This season, he has made all 50 of his point-after kicks and is 13 of 17 field-goal attempts.

Medlock is second on the team in scoring with 89 points this season. Last year, Medlock was an all-Pac-10 first-team selection who led UCLA in scoring with 87 points, including three field goals of more than 49 yards.

I remember the last time we had a left-footed kicker... if I recall correctly he was pretty good.

In all seriousness, cutting Mare may cost us a couple mil but will win us 2-3 games if this guy proves to be somewhat clutch. That's pretty much like saying cutting out processed foods from my diet will cost me maybe $100 a year but will drastically improve my health. Hurney screwed the pooch on this contract, and he's going to have to eat it.

    • I see they blamed Slavin for the goal like I did.
    • See this is the problem, you say "can't get off the line quick" and "can't separate quick" but in reality it's "he can get off the line better and create more separation" which are two completely different things. If he couldn't get off the line or separate, he wouldn't have put up the numbers he did and end up a Top 10 pick. But he can get better, and maybe more accurately, consistent with them both, and that will take his game to the next level.  These are things that are also much easier to improve once you get to the NFL than things like being a poor route runner or having bad hands, two of his strengths. Thinking he can't get open in the short passing game also shows you haven't watched enough tape on him, as he was used in that role so much in college with little issue getting open and making plays. And him not using his physicality as much isn't even something that hurts his game because he's so much more agile than a player of his size should be, which he used to his advantage.  Instead of throwing passes where he'd go up and box out a player like a TE or Mike Evans does, they use his athleticism and put the ball in places that only he can get to it, and he usually does (and yes, he'll still be able to do that against NFL DB's with his catch radius). But now that he's in the NFL, I'd like to see him get stronger and add that to his game because it also will help him take his game to another level. As I've said before, if he doesn't improve on those things at all, I think he's a Top 25 WR in this league, he's already that good.  But I think he'll improve on those things and be a perennial Top 10 WR and in his prime is considered and perform like Top 5 guy in some years. My expectations for him this year at 800 yards and 8 TDs (although I do think he'll get to 10 TDs) with a real chance at getting to 1,000.  But those expectations are because I think Thielen will lead the team in yards with close to 1k and XL/Coker each end up in the 500-600 range themselves, just too many mouths to feed this year for a rookie to dominate yardage, especially if we're running the ball well again. But if Thielen can't stay healthy or puts up sub 750 yards, then yea, my expectations for T-Mac likely shift to getting to 1k as a rookie.
    • Svech only 1 goal behind the guy they've pretty much already given the Conn Smythe to...
