Cutting Wharton has no immediate impact on cap

So that sucks and I see no reason why we did not wait until June 1st to do so..Says we will carry his cap number until then, so basically until then he still counts 7.6 against our cap. Kills the notion of freeing up the 5.8 million to sign somebody else.

we all know that, but why do it now in march? Could have used the next 2 and half months to convince him to restructure. Guess his agent convinced us it was not going to happen.

This way his cap hit will be 2 million instead of 4 million. Why allow him to go now instead of after June 1? Players watch how the front office acquires guys, resigns them as well as releases them. FOs who care about the players future even when they release them earn respect from the players which is important. Why do we need the cap space then as much as now? Some of our best acquisitions come from guys other teams discard throughout the preseason while they are paring down rosters to get down to 53.

You guys should do a little salary cap research. This is the only move Marty could have done. You want the total cap hit now or half it over the next two years. Whether Hurney is a good judge of talent is up for debate but his cap skills are not. Relax.
