The Claiborne Watch

The Vikings would be idiots to pass on Kalil at #3 (but you never know, they could take him), the Browns are a possibility but they've got more pressing needs than a CB (but you never know, they could take him), the Bucs would be idiots to pass on Claiborne (even if Talib does get to play, a 50/50 shot as far as I know, and Barber does play again this year they might as well change the "Barber" on the back of his jersey to "Methuselah"), the Rams could take him but I'd guess this is the spot where Richardson starts being considered and RB is a need for them but so is WR, Jags could use him but they (like the Browns) have MUCH more pressing needs than a CB, and the Dolphins are about the least possible team for him to land on in the top 9.

To me the Minnesota Vikings pose the biggest threat to take him at #3.

#3 Minnesota - Claiborne/Blackmon (reports they aren't impressed with Kalil) Their pass d was ranked one of the worst. Overpaid Carlson a TE. Need more weapons.

#4 Browns - Kalil They have Joe Hayden but have a need for a #2. Good draft for CBs though.

#5 Bucs - Trent Richardson I could also see them trading back to stock pile. Maybe Cincy wants to move up and grab Richardson. Bucs have Talib, Wright, Barber (hes been invited back)

#6 Rams - Blackmon if he's there...or Reiff. signed Finnegan to a huge contract

#7 Jaguars - Coples/Ingram Maroons when it comes to drafting. My fear is they are a possible trade up partner to snag a Claiborne

#8 Miami - I now see them taking A) Tannehill if available or B) Malcom Floyd

In summary, there's 6 teams ahead of us that could realistically take Claiborne, so I don't think there's much of a chance of him dropping...and I'd guess he lands in TB. I'm guessing the Vikes are just blowing smoke hoping for a trade down but if they're picking at #3 they gotta protect their young QB.

Claiborne is considered by most to be a better CB than Peterson. Peterson was just a phenomenal athlete, which inflated his hype because coaches tend to think they can coach up talent but athleticism like Peterson's can't be taught.

If I had to pick one and we could have him, it'd be Claiborne (but not by much, considering what Peterson brings to STs).

If Claiborne isnt as good as PP7 was then should he really be considered a top 5 pick? 6-8 seems to be the range if he's gonna go before us. I think Claiborne drops to us, 90% chance on my bullchittin around o' meter.

Not if they think hes the best player on their board when they pick.

Exactly, people need to realize that in the top 10 people are going to draft bpa and not reach for needs (do that in later rounds). Now if two players are on the board that they have graded about the same, then they will go with the biggest need... Only other exception is reaching for a qb.

Within the first 8 picks I believe he will hands down be bpa available on the board by a good margin for a team drafting and they will take him

Not if they think hes the best player on their board when they pick.

That would be moot because he would not be because they have other holes to feel. What you are saying is basically if we are picking at 9 we will draft Trent Richardson if he falls to us because he is the best player... I think not.

Use you brain. We aren't talking about running back, we aren't talking about QB. OBVIOUSLY a team wouldn't draft a RB in the top 10 (or 15, maybe not 20 anymore) if there isn't a dire need, its too high. Same with quarterback.

How many CBs do teams start? How many teams in the top 10 are completely set at CB? Lets not forget that Talib (Tampa) could be headed to jail. just an example. There are other teams in the top 10 who have a need for and could still draft Claiborne.

    • I said could, not would. I recognize he has potential based on past performance. Compared to what KP has done, Howell has more potential and the physical traits to make noise. KP has small hands and a weak arm. Not something you want in even your backup QB.  I've been hammering since last off-season before we re-signed Dalton, improve the room. Other than getting younger, I don't see how anyone can say we legitimately improved the room or even tried. We might as well have signed Josh Rosen.  Dalton is still on the roster for now. That's 3 QBs unless we trade or cut him. He's still Bryce's mentor after all. Do you believe we are going to draft someone with potential and give them a legitimate opportunity to develop from the practice squad? Are we going to carry 3 QBs on the active roster? 4 for a developmental rookie? Are we going to potentially cut KP if we draft a rookie and he's outperformed? Doubtful. Cutting Dalton(if we can't trade him) and KP would be 8m in wasted cap space.  I chose Howell as an example because he showed promise in his only full season as a starter. You could plug in another name with the physical traits and potential and what i said would still apply. KP showed almost nothing and was benched. I genuinely don't care if it’s rookie pick as long as there is the potential to develop into a future NFL QB.  As much as I can't stand him, Bellichek was always developing a number 2 QB even with the GOAT as his starter. The wisdom of that was evident when Cassell came in when Brady was hurt week 1 and went 11-5 and almost made the wildcard, which 11-5 gets you almost any other year. I give credit where it's due though. Cassel and Jimmy G both came into the league as developmental QBs, potential QB1s, and went on to have careers.  You never know if you never try. KP feels like a punt in addressing the most important position on the field. Bryce has never played 2 full games of franchise QB level football back to back.  If Bryce progresses, are you ready to offer a 280m 5 year extension based off a one hit wonder year? If Bryce regresses and we need a QB in 27, are we going to trade a fortune away again to trade up to 1 to get one? Are you ready to do the past 3 years all over again?  To me, it's not about Kenny Pickett. It's about the move itself. It was a feeble attempt to improve the QB room. We better hope Bryce succeeds, because if he doesn't, we literally have no backup plan right now.
    • IOL that early isn’t good value at all. We have a LT who might not ever be good again and a RT that might retire soon. T seems deep early in this draft, so I’d go there in the 1st.
    • Season tickets aren't affordable anymore definitely when they've been so bad for 8 years before last season. When I started going my seats were front row uppers for like 38 bucks. Those seats are 100 dollars now. Teams make their money from tv, if I was an owner my goal would be to break even on tickets and concessions.
