What GM's say when they want great value in a trade = We have made no calls trying to trade either Stewart or Williams.

What he did not say "We have gotten no calls from teams interested in Stewart or Williams"

Good move on Hurneys part. Otherwise, this organization is as dumb as a rock and perrenial top ten drafters

We may not be calling teams concerning a trade. However, I guarantee you that other teams WILL BE calling the Panthers to inquire about Stewart in a trade. If they do, I am sure that we would listen.

How did you beat me to this? you type very fast my friend

Some of you will complain over anything. Let's get this out there, you aren't GMs and the bottom line is we just signed a very good, versatile player who took less money to come to Carolina. Yeah, less money. First time that's been said in franchise history I'd bet.

No one is saying that the running game was not bolstered even more by this move. Those that understand the concept of a salary cap and a finite amount of cap space, understand that sometimes you can neglect other positions in favor of bolstering a strength.

You CAN'T have an all-pro at every position.

I will be interested in seeign the numbers for the contract for Tolbert.

However, based on what DWill is getting paid...what Stewart will compand....and what another starting calibre RB (Tolbert) got....that is a DAMN LOT to tie up in one position. Even if the Cap is raised to $130M next season, we would have nearly $20M in the RB position....nearly 1/6 of your total cap.

it is not that you can't afford a signing....it is whether that money could be spent better on other positions of need.

If we trade Stew for a pick, half will be mad.

If we lose Stew for nothing, most will be mad.

If we re-sign Stew in the end, we all rejoice???

Nope....because I personally think it is CRAZY to have 2-3 RB's all making top dollar. That money is better spent improving other positions.

Because that will mean that DW restructured his contract and then we would have an overpowering offense. :D

some were living in a dream world that in a passing league you could pay 2 1st RBs big dollar contracts.

Hurney made his choice. (I personally think he picked the wrong RB but the choice was made). I love Stewart. I think he is the best RB on the team.

I don't not endorse paying him a bigger contract than Williams.....and to be here that is what he should get. Near impossible to trade a RB and get what he is worth. I think we keep him this year....silly to trade a top end RB like him for a 3rd while he is cheap and in his prime. He walks.

    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
