Panthers Had A Bounty On Brett Favre

I was listening to the Mac Attack on WFNZ this morning and heard a conversation between the host, Chris McClain and Frank Garcia. For those that might not know, Frank hosts an early afternoon talk show on WFNZ from 11am to 3pm and is a former Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals Offensive lineman. Frank Garcia apparently called in because he was irritated at Chris McClain's point of view on the defending the severity of the Saint's punishment. Frank said, " this sort of thing has been going on forever, and you know what Mac? The Panthers had a bounty on Brett Favre's ass in the 1996 playoff game!" This is almost word for word. I was kinda shocked he put that out there, but I guess he was really pissed that Mac didn't understand that Frank thought this wasn't as big a deal as the NFL is making it out to be. I have met Frank Garcia and think he's pretty cool, but I am happy as hell the Saints got what they did. I think the differences are 1. The NFL had evidence and told them to stop and they didn't and 2. They lied about it when asked.

Did he specify if it was a player organized bounty or a coach bounty? Because there is a huge difference.

Nah, all player run. That is indeed a huge difference, imho. I think most teams have an incentive pool for big plays and stuff, but where the Saints went wrong is the coaches got involved and it got out of hand.

Garcia is a moron and is also correct. the only positive thing about the saints punishment is that it was leveled at the saints.

I don't think it changes anything that is going on and has always gone on in all locker rooms

that said lmao at the taints and I hope the fallout gets nothing but worse for them. Bad luck could not happen to a more deserving city of idiots.. again.

The concern now is what else comes out of the closet now that the saints have been skewered. ALL code and honor bets are off when this type of punishment comes down. That is the real reason why it does.

Fingers crossed.

I didn't like Frank Garcia airing that out on the radio. I mean, keep that to yourself or at least argue about it off the air. I guess he was just really pissed and thought Mac was being a little b*tch on the radio, lol.

Was it really Frank Garcia? I heard it as well, but later on in the show Mac said something like "well, WFNZ's got our own Frank" or something like that... Whatever he said led me to beleive he may not have been talking to Garcia. If not Garcia, I've no idea who it could have been since he was the only Frank on the '96 roster.

The above is an old Yahoo article from 2010... the below is taken from it.

Frank Garcia pointed out that players should be forced to cut off their hair so the helmets fit properly. He also said there wouldn't be so many helmets flying off if they were being worn correctly. Garcia also says his biggest fear is the NFL turning into a season of Pro Bowl like games with little hitting and no blitzing. He went on to speak of the Rams players all playing $100 each for a bounty pool to put out Brett Favre when Garcia was with the Rams.

Not sure how all that comes together... was the talking about the Panthers putting a bounty on Favre, or the Rams when he was with them?

    • Sellers is absolutely one to keep an eye on. Could be the next Cam or could be the next Anthony Richardson. Curious to see how he has progressed come this fall.
    • I think Texas could go 0-12 and he would still go #1 based on his name and traits like you say.  But nusselman and sellers may be actually better qbs.    Man if bryce stinks it up this season its looking like a damn good year to swap out qbs.  Sellers highlights are just fuging jaw dropping
    • I mean, the kid comes from a wealthy family. It's not like he needs the money. He has a ton of potential now we get to see what he can do as a starter. Everyone penciling him in as the #1 overall pick is putting the cart way before the horse. It's 5% because of his talent and what he's showing on the field and 95% because his last name is Manning. And if he is what he's hyped to be the Texas coaching staff needs to be answering some tough questions about why the kid wasn't on the field sooner. Ewers was a good college QB but he's definitely not a "keep a future #1 overall pick waiting" type of college QB. Only getting one season out of a top NFL talent because you chose to keep him buried behind a borderline NFL talent is just coaching negligence. Not starting him as a true freshman? Yeah, I get that. But on year two if the kids is what he's hyped to be you gotta wish Ewers well elsewhere and turn the page.
