Will The Ol Hold Our Offense Back?

A lot is resting on Otah shoulders. Bell was horrible last year, though it was a hard situation for him. Everything points to Otah having a good year but we'll see. If money can't motivate the guy then Hurney has his first 1st round bust.

I dont know that money can motivate a set of bad knees

Unless we make some upgrades I am afraid our OL will be subpar. We just invested additional money in a running game we have a small fortune invested in already. We will also need to protect the passer who is the face of our franchise.

When I look at the OL we have a RT that has been good when on the field but injured 80% of his career. We have a good LT and everyone else is average to below average.Unlike some I was not overly impressed with the latest signing. My guess is our 1st and 2nd rd picks will be defense.

Someone tell me I am just having a delusional moment but I have always felt you build your offense and defense beginning with the line.

I do understand your concern but hope tht we'll be ok. I would've like to see us improve our OL and I don't think we did.

our line ranked in the top 10 last year with bell playing pretty much the entire season and wharton grading out as one of the worst OGs in the league. we shouldn't be any worse this year, even if otah is hurt again.

if gross or kalil are injured we might be in trouble but barring that we should be fine.

I am hoping our new fb should help in blocking but have little faith that Otah can get healthy enough to play a whole season. If Gross goes down I think we will have real problems. To me a great running game helps the defense as well.Last year was good but not to the level it has been.

I share your concern for the OL...to a point. Overall I think they will be ok, I just don't know if they will be dominant. But from everything I have been hearing, Otah is perfectly healthy now and has been working extremely hard to get ready for the season. So I do think he'll be fine. Gross is still a good OT and Kalil is a special C, so that just leaves the OG's, and we have some players there that, at worst, should be decent.

Our best line has Otah and Bell on the right side. I hate that Otah is such a big key. But if he plays, we can be very good.

If we have to us Bell at RT, we lose half our depth at G. With only Hang, Pollack, and Williams in the mix.

This will be Zimba's 2nd year, so there is that. If there ever was a that to begin with.

We are set. We could be better. With luck, we could be great. And GOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I hope not. 3rd-5th round QB's are historically awful. Most of the time that team is just drafting another QB in the first the following year. Look at the Saints, if they continue to suck this year they are just taking a QB. And if they do they just threw away a 2nd round pick that they just drafted. We did the same poo with Clausen, Greer, Pike, that guy we drafted a few years ago who is so irrelevant I forgot his name...  Just take a 1st round QB if Bryce isn't the answer and be prepared to live with it
    • This reminds me on Madden where you create an alternate uniform and the pre-recorded voice overs talk about how hideous your uniform looks. 🤣
    • There are people on this forum that just want to see a lot of passing yards....number go up. That's all it is, really. They are thirsting for a 350-400 yard game. The idea that Jameis Winston is going to come in and play like a star and lead us to wins is ludacris. He's the 3rd fuging string for a 2-5 team and has played horrible for years now. Sure, passing numbers will go up but you'll also get a lot of dumb plays, pick 6's, and incompletions en route to a frustrating bad offensive performance, just in a different way. I think these people are yearning for another Delhomme situation, and the odds of that happening are very very slim. It's way more likely Howell or Jameis comes in and looks like Jack Plummer or Andy Dalton did in the preseason. There just isn't that much good quarterbacking in this league right now. And if we draft another QB in the first round, there is a good chance they bust. It's not a guaranteed carrot. The reality is, as mediocre as Bryce has been, the risk of bringing someone else in in-season and releasing Bryce becuase you aren't happy with his current performance is staggeringly high. Don't want to re-up his contract and search for a solution in the offseason? Sure, I'm on board. Bryce hasn't been good enough to warrant a second contract. But It is very. very unlikely that bringing someone else in midseason is going to give this team more wins.
