This Is A Wait And See Draft

To me there are 6 elite players 5 of which will be gone in the first 6 picks. Luck, RG3, Kalil ,Claborne ,Blackmon with Richardson being the only one that might slip. The 7th pick until the 11th you are either taking a risk on a DE or DT or reaching for a safer pick with a OL or lb.

Obviously to me trading down would be the best option if available. To me Poe and Couples are risk based on game film.So doe we take a risk or reach for a safer pick ?

I completly disagree on the pick having to be a DE/DT. Or that the safe picks are OL or LB. Honestly, i think Reiff and Kalil are gonna be off the board by our pick. I do think Coples, Poe, DeCastro and Keuchly will be there but i have reservations about all of them. DeCastro is a GUARD. Not exactly high value. Poe is a workout warrior that did not produce at Memphis, Coples reminds me of Peppers with a less consistent motor, and Keuchly like DeCastro is low value at 9. No one is talking about the Corners. Everyone is fixated on Claibourne but Stephen Gilmore and Dre Kirkpatrick are also talented kids. Lots of folks also have talked about how bad our dline was at stopping the run or maintaining a pass rush. I saw it too, but i also saw Gamble exposed several times too. We need to start grooming a top CB. Capt. Butler, and Hogan are not the answer. Point blank. Top of the second we can address DE/DT or OLB. The talent is deep at those positions this year.

How do you know about Hogan and Butler (Captain, I agree with)? Butler was brought in late, and his season was interrupted with his sick child, so it's hard to guage what to expect from him with a full off-season here and no personal issues (hopefully). Hogan, on the other hand, barely even played...which seemed to be the plan going into the season. But when he did, he actually looked very good. And from everything that came out of Panther practices last season, Hogan was looking great, even doing well against Smitty.

That's not saying they are sure things, but there's nothing to lead to an assumption that they can't or won't be the answer.

I recently asked some friends at UNC what they though of Coples and they really said that it didn't even seem like he was there this past year. And then of course I constantly hear red flags about the kid in the media and here. He was at program with a sh*t situation but on the other side...he's the only supposed "athletic freak" at DE in this year's draft. I'm just down right uncomfortable getting him, but if we do...maybe Ron & Sean can make him into a star.

If I was Hurney, I'd make it look like I'm giving him a hard look regardless because someone could trade up for him rather than us and we could get some great compensation in a top-heavy draft and then picks 7-23 being quite one big blur.

Tell that to the Bucs and Carl Nicks (5yr 47.5 mil deal). Considering Decastro would be considered elite as soon as we unwrapped the package thats a serious discount (last years #9 4 yr a little over 12 mil). People on here completely ignore how draft trends from the 90's and 00's won't hold up with the rookie cap. G's (especially on Decastro's level) will go a lot sooner then in the past. Even with all those preconceived notions he is still projected to go only 2 picks after us to the Chiefs in almost every mock. If you want a elite prospect at a position of need unless Claiborne falls to us Decastro's it.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
