Strategy And Personnel

Recommended Posts

This is another good article written, by who knows, but it's a decent read at what's been going on with the team.

Also, I can tell this writer actually knows what he's talking about because of the "team needs" section. It's hard to argue but he's right.

Go here

Interesting bits.

Ron Rivera has said he doesn't think adding a defensive tackle is the same kind of priority others do, but their pre-draft visit card shows they're taking a long look at the top prospects.

They've already had LSU's Michael Brockers, Memphis' Dontari Poe and Mississippi State's Fletcher Cox in for visits, along with Michigan State's Jerel Worthy.

Didn't realize we had all these DT's come in.

They clearly need at least one more starting-caliber player, even if you assume McClain and Fua will develop into solid wave players, because the Panthers aren't loaded on the outside.

I have to agree on this.

Good analysis. I think they go D-line in the first if the player they want is available, and corner or LB in the 2nd. What we miss on in the draft we can probably fill in with post-June 1st cuts.

The key is we need at least 2 solid starters out of the draft.

I think you hit the nail on the head on this one. That's when the Cap should rise another 5.4(?) millions. It helps that they cleared 200k with Goodson, so the cap is at 707,000 at the moment.

I dont read to much in what Rivera says. The fact is we are deficient in a number of areas so much so that they were unable to really implement the defense as Rivera noted.I dont think he will tip his hat on the specific position if there is one we will be targeting. I feel what him keeps him up at night is the scheme to put more pressure on the qb.That could mean a dt,de or lb.

I hate to be a pessimist but we have we really dont know if we can count on Davis, Beason, Otah, and R Edwards .We also clearly are in need of a cb, safety and OG and OT.I think it is safe to say we can only count on our number 1 and number 2 draft pick as starters.

Rivera has proven to be almost the anti Fox. Usually what he says.....actually means something. Fox just didn't answer anything. if Rivera says DT isn't as big of a need some view it as....I think he is being truthful about what the Panthers think.

Also, with last minute trade scenarios in play....Carolina probably will meet with most 1st round potential picks outside of QBs and RBs

The Panthers are using their full alotment of predraft visits...and at multiple positions.

You never know how the draft is going to play out. There are a lot of unknowns that will happen around out pick. You MUST do your homework on ANY player that may be a possibility for you.

Panthers are being very smart and diligent. Although I still think that we will NOT take a DT at #9....I am also smart enough to know that it is a real possibility....as is CB, LB, DE, or OL.

Honestly, with Campbell in Bell, G Williams, Pollack is the depth at O line..not too shabby and comparable to what we had last season.. Possibly a 5-7th round oline pickup

Also we get another year for Lee Ziemba. He has a lot of natural skills but had to work on his strength. His development could be promising.

Bell, had a lot of potential and had no offseason (for the critics). He held his side at a promising rate and had only a few rookie miscues(offsides) he was undrafted as well...great pickup!!

Campbell, is athletic and it looks as if he would florish blocking second level guys running with Cam..

Pollack is just a veteran who was promising but an average back up who can fill in at a few places.

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
