Panthers Apparently "love" Luke Kuechly

I don't have a problem taking Kuechly with the 9th pick, particulary b/c I think that we will need a quality backup before the seasons out. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't have a lot of conifidence in Davis playing the entire season. However, if I am wrong and Davis and Beason plays the entire season, I'd probably wish we'd taken Coples.

With a top ten pick you cannot look at this season only. Eyes on the prize, long term sustained success.

And that does not happen drafting RB's and LB's in the first round, much less top ten.

How much does Edwards Make 55 really?

CJ is the only Dlinemen making bank.

Please god let us be as successful as the Eagles have been over the past 10 years.

You are correct, Hurney does think that the LB position is very important, and it shows in the fact that we continue to overpay for that position.

Hey guys, the game has changed. You have to rush the passer, you have to be able to cover the WR freaks that are out there. Do you need LB's....hell yes. But you don't need 3 first rounders invested at the position over the past 6 seasons.

Who is the most successful 43 team out there right now, and please tell me how they have drafted over the past 10 seasons.

I can go ahead and fill you in....they were't drafting RB's and LB's in the first round.

Actually the Eagles defense has been better than ours in the past 5 years by a lot. Last year they were 8th in total yards surrendered and 10th in points surrendered. We better hope we are that good this year.

THe game now features quick tight ends and guys like Sproles out of the backfield. Yeah covered by linebackers if they can.

If Beason and Davis both come back at 100% and play great it won't matter who we took long term, because that will be as likely as the earth ending in December.

We didn't have enough quality LB'ers last year and that really hurt us on defense and yes part of that was at the DT position, but a large part was at the LB position. I'd like to solidify what I feel is an area of need and or injury concern, particularly with Davis. Although I wouldn't mind if we took Coples with our 1st and Zach Brown with our 2nd.

BECAUSE THEY INVEST IN PASS RUSH AND DEFENSIVE TACKLE INSTEAD OF LINEBACKERS IN THE FIRST ROUND.

YOU USED A REALLY STUPID TEAM TO COMPARE US TO WHEN TRYING TO MAKE AN ARGUMENT THAT WE SHOULD DRAFT A LINEBACKER IN THE TOP TEN.

WHEN IS THE LAST TIME THE GIANTS OR EAGLES HAVE DONE THAT?????????

THEY ARE TWO OF THE BEST DEFENSES OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I clear.

for every person bringing up philly, in the Jim Johnson era they never took a LB in the 1st round.

He was only the defensive coordinator in Philly for 9 years. And they had no first in 2007 and 2008 so now it was 7 years. It we go by their picks we will go DT since they picked that position in back to back years in 2005 and 2006 and earlier in 2000.

The conclusion must be they are bad at picking defensive linenem since they picked 3 first rounders in 6 drafts. Here they were:

Corey Simon, Broderick Bunkley and Mike Paterson. The only guy who did anything was Simon.

Maybe they should have gone linebacker..................................

How good have we been at drafting LB's if we are discussing another?

How good has our D been doing it our way?j

How many games have we won in the last 10 years?

Yea, lets keep on doing things the same way, we have been so damn good, I would hate to mess up now.

No you are wrong as usual. THey did pick DT in 3 of the 7 drsafts we are talking about. Johnson was only coordinator for 9 seasons and they didn't have a first rounder in 2007 and 2008.

They picked Simon in 2000 and he had some success in 2003 and made the pro bowl otherwise he was not that great. So they invest 2 picks back to back in 2005 and 2006 on household names like Brodrick Bunkley who is now a Saint and the great Mike Patterson. Neither has done anything. What does it prove?? That Johnson had to keep going to the well because their staff can't judge defensive line talent. In the end he still never had any dominant DTs. How about that great DE they drafted number 1- Jerome McDougle in 2003.

So what I get you saying is that we should draft a number of defensive line busts in the first round so we can be like Philly since we run a similar scheme???? Right????

    • I don't think Dave touches the defense. That might be a mark against him but definitely a huge red flag for evero. He refuses to run anything other than soft zone and when you don't get pressure that's an awful scheme
    • You don't have to convince me. I think not picking up the option should absolutely be firmly on the table but I just do not see Tepper and Morgan doing that for previously stated reasons. Therefore I'm not going to bother entertaining the notion. Just hoping we actually get real viable competition. If that doesn't happen at the minimum then my perception of that is complete and utter professional malpractice.
    • It was absolutely a catch, and I can’t believe how many folks were stating, before the NFL’s apology, that the overturn was the right call.  The ultimate question in this case is this: can a player complete a catch with only one hand? Of course, we all know the answer to that question, and it is an emphatic “Yes.” T-Mac maintained complete control with one hand (believe it was the right) while the other came off when the ball hit the ground. The ball was in the same position in the one hand (watch T-Mac’s fingers in relation to the NFL shield on the ball) after touching the ground as it was when it first went to the ground. Going back to the question above, if one hand can establish control, then there was no need for the other to stay on the ball, so long as the ball doesn’t move in that one hand that stays on it   It blew my mind that they overturned this in the first place. This should not be a “We got it wrong on the replay because there wasn’t clear and convincing evidence.” This should have been, “That was absolutely a catch.”
