Bobcats Rebrand Update Thread (Real Charlotte Fans-Censorship Free Edition)

After seeing this pathetic bunch struggle to put up 67 points in an NBA game, they don't even deserve to call themselves an NBA team. Hell, half of the NBA Development teams would beat the Hornets this season.

Keep the Bobcats name....run Jordan out of town. The guy is the WORST businessman in professional sports. He is clueless....plain clueless.

I haven't either but last night at the Arena, I was working in the team store and one of the older security guys in the arena came up to me and said "I guess everything around here is going to say Hornets pretty soon" Also another guy was in the team store wearing a Charlotte Hornets shirt. He was talking to my manager and said something about 'they are bringing back the Hornets" I was like have I missed something. I really thought there was breaking news or something that I missed. We also just so happen to to put all the Bobcats jerseys on sale for 50% off. We are trying to get rid of all those suckers. But then I came home and saw no news on it. So I don't where everyone is hearing news on this.

I've personally been on upwards of 20 news programs, radio shows, newspapers, etc. KittyMan, from here to Charleston to Winston Salem. Gonna be on Keith Larson's show today. Was on WCNC last night. We're everywhere...go to the Facebook page; I keep a running record of all of our 'press' in the 'notes' section. If you haven't caught the Movement in the news, expect to soon :)

The problem with a rebrand, is that it has not long term benefit of the team. Sure merchandise would sell better for a short period, but that and all the hoopla from the rebrand would be gone after 2 weeks of games. It's just a waste of money, the Hornets name doesn't belong to Charlotte, it belongs to New Orleans first. The NBA second and unless the rebran automatically sells out the new arena for the next 2 seasons and make the team the #1 team in the NBA in merchandise, it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

The name of the team shouldn't matter, its your states/hometown's team and you should cheer for them with out griping about a damn name. Should be more focused on what the team needs to do to be competitive, changing the name doesn't help in that regard.

Also, for those who are interested and haven't yet seen it, this is the Charlotte Hornets 2.0 concept uniform/logo updates that we've been floating around the 'net the last few days. They were actually designed for us by a NOLA fan whom I've met through all of this. He goes by BigDub81 on HornetsReport.com and he's the guy responsible for all the killer Brass/Krewe/Breakers (the list goes on) mock ups that you might've seen over the past few months.

I'm very disappointed in Jordan also. Great player, not so much a great business man.

Surely there is a wealthy person out there with local ties that could buy the team and put it on the right track. It would be great if hendrick or gibbs or some other local ownership team with pro sports experience took over and turned it around.

They are on the right track, they had to get rid of Wallace and Jackson to even have a chance at becoming a perennial playoff team. They've hired Richard Cho, but It's going to take a few years and that wouldn't change with a new owner.

You're right, the name shouldn't matter..but unfortunately to a lot of people it does. It matters enough to people that they will probably show up to games, start buying merchandise again, and pumping much needed revenue in the franchise. I personally have been neutral to the whole thing...but sometimes you have to listen to the customers...impulsive and nostalgic as they may be. I personally have taken a liken to the 'Cats colors and jerseys..especially the whites. Then again..i'll show up regardless of the name.

I seriously doubt anyone would buy this team without a deep, deep discount. So the question begs for MJ, financially does it make since to pay to rebrand the cats? Or just sell, cut your losses, etc...

I like Jordan as a player, and he did at least dig the cats slightly out of the black hole that bob Johnson put this team into (and by black hole, I am talking about all of the negativity he created for the community). He did get people to support the team.

If you got a mark Cuban type of owner, who is a really good business person, then in 3-5 yrs you could see this organization turn around.

Why wont JR buy it? I know he's no Tom Benson, and his money isnt that long, but why wont he step up? Outside of him theres no one from NC as rich as Bob or tied to the league like MJ. The whole smalltime country mogul thing dont work in the NBA guys. This isnt NASCAR.

I actually like what we are doing as a franchise. Yeah we are pooty this year and will probably be pooty next year even if we do get the unibrow.

But we are doing the right thing by re-building and doing it through the draft. I like the direction Cho has us headed, even if I don't like the quality of play on the court this season.

The Panthers have been around a lot longer than the Bobcats, and both teams haven't done much and are losing franchises

I think That if Jordan does do the rebrand and makes his money back it will help him trust the opinions of advisors/fans moreso than taking it all into his hands. Not only would he restore our name and give us back OUR colors, he would improve the outsides view of him caring about the fanbases wants. It would spark loyalty outside of those in favor for the movement. This literally would be a drastic turn around affecting every facet of the organization, including owners relations to the area.
