Whats YOUR grade of the Panthers 2009 Draft?

I hope I'm not the only one that's excited about Goodson, his highlights look pretty good. I'm not sure if I love giving up next years pick, but if we get rid of Pep then we can still get into the first round. Am I the only one that was worried watching Brown consistently jump offsides or get really close. The way these refs in the NFL protect the quarterbacks that poo will never fly. I can just see all the stupid penalties already.

So far I don't know what to make of the Sherrod Martin pick. I hope John and Marty know what they're doing. It would be nice to have another CB competing, but I feel we should have been stockpiling D-line at this point in the draft. I don't know much about Irvin but I'll assume he's high risk/high reward and a work in progress.

Duke Robinson fills a need and was great value at the spot, looks to be possibly the best value choice in the draft. I'm mildly optimistic and excited to see if these guys can ball.

Draft Grade: B

Here's to these players proving to be A+

with 21-22 starters returning we drafted guys who could come in and make an impact in various ways but not immediate starter potential

Every position they drafted there was a need, and every pick was good value, I think they did great

I say a B, but really we have no idea, with the way the FO has been drafting recently this draft will most likely end up very successful

No matter what your grade for our draft is, one thing that can make you feel much better about our own draft is to simply take a look at the Bucs and Saints draft......

I'm convinced the Bucs are going 4-12 this year, and the Saints are primed for 8-8 again.(and that's if they have a #1 offense again)

Their draft was an A but the Delhomme 5 year extention cancels it out to a C-

You guys forget that before the extension we couldn't even have signed all our draft picks. A move like that was a prerequisite for us making the most out of our draft.

I don't see Jake playing for another 5 years either. 2-3 years from now he'll retire and we won't have to pay the extra.

Just based on filling needs and the players we selected: B

However losing next year's 1st really bothers me (just like it did this time last year) for two reasons:

1) Marshall, T. Davis and J. King are all UFA's after this season.

2) The 2010 is looking to be loooaaaadddddeeeedddd with talent especially with a first round grade.

And yes I realize that this time last year we gave up our first with Gross, Peppers and Gamble all entering their last season under contract and (so far) we have retained all three. But look at the cap hell we are in because of it. The Otah trade proved my worries wrong but I'm not so sure good luck will strike twice with this move. If we do not make the playoffs, SF has gotten a huge steal and Hurney will look bad.

    • What you are saying isn't always true and I'll give you several examples to demonstrate this. 1) The best player on the board at the end of in round 1 by all consensus is RB (top 15 player in draft who slips b/c of the devaluation of the RB position). Your team is in desperate need of a LT because the current one is getting your QB killed. You already have a serviceable RB in place. The LT has a 2nd round grade and you have the first pick on day 2 of the draft Who do you choose? 2) Your run defense was abysmal the previous season. A DT in round 2 does not provide much in terms of pass rush, but most reports have him rated as the best pure run stuffing DT in the draft. The two highest rated players on your board at the time are a TE and tweener at OLB/DE who slipped into round 2 after a run on WR's. Who do you choose? 3) Your pass rush rush is solid across the board. You even have guy coming off of the bench to provide production. Your secondary in below average. No Safety on the roster is a difference maker and as a unit the squad doesn't have an INT. The highest rated player on the board is a DE. The 5th highest rated player on the board is a an intelligent ball hawking Safety. Which player would make the team immediately better?  1) I think the BPA logic applies when your team is solid across the board and you can afford to draft for depth 2) I think it also applies when your team stinks and any solid player will be an immediate upgrade over what you already have. I agree that you should NEVER reach for a player when you are need at a position like we did for Bryce Young. But I also think if there's is a player on the board that will fill a glaring weakness you need to take him even if a player with a higher over all ranking is available at another position (which isn't a need)
    • Bryce Young excels at dividing Panthers fans. That seems to be what he's best at.
    • 184 yards game, 61% completion 11 tds 5ints    thats ranks :check notes:  25th in the nfl
