Anyone know anything about them. I really like the idea of it. I love fishing, love kayaking, seems like a no brainer.

I am looking at this one...

On a slightly related note, I've been looking into purchasing some sea kayaks. Only been out once but enjoyed it and would love to have a pair to explore parts of the intracoastal waterway in Brunswick County. Ergo, any sea kayak recommendations would also be appreciated.

The (very) general guidelines:

For open water I would stay away from anything that’s less than 16.5 feet.

Skags are better than rudders - they don’t break as much and when they do its impact is minimal at most where a broken rudder can be a big problem.

You buy a boat based on your size - your weight and waist will dictate more than anything.

Paddle it before you buy it.

Buy a plastic boat before you sink real money in a composite boat.

I have a Wilderness Systems Tempest 17'. It comfortably carries me (~260lbs) and 3 days worth of gear & food, more if I don’t have to carry water. I’ve had it in 2-3 foot seas and wouldn’t want it in any rougher water.

Either that or the same companies Tsunami are great first boats.

If you want something more flexible but less sea kayak the Hobie Adventure Island is cool as hell. It’s a convertible trimaran with a 12’ sail or a sit on top kayak. They are a ton of fun for inland water and I saw one running from Southport to Bald Head making nearly 12 knots.

also sort of related: I'm looking for a decent surf combo... thinking about 9' as I need it to double as big river rod...

price point around $150... thinking a daiwa emcast plus paired with an oceanmaster...

thoughts from experienced surf casters?

damn, stradics and st croix?

any old setups you aren't using anymore?

Sorry man, they don't get old.

My Dad was always told me to buy quality guns and fishing gear, and you can use them for life.

You can go buy a $40 set up from Wal Mart, and buy it again in 2 years, over and over. Or get a Stradic/Croix (or any other good stuff) and never buy it again.

I fish 3 or 4 rods at a time, and they are all that combo.

i bought some of those shitty shakespeare 20$ combos they have at walmart over the course of the past 5 years, and all 5 of them have outlasted anything else i've bought

i'm not saying they're good reels or anything, they work in a pinch on a budget and now i have enough "big" cat rods to loan friends when they go fishing with me, since nobody gears for big fish (10lbs and up)

i really really really need to learn to use a baitcaster, i've never really spent enough time with an open face. everytime i get good with one it breaks and i don't fug with them for another 2 years and birdnest every other cast

anyway

for us mad max types, diy outriggers for canoes. could be modified for kayaks. improvements to the overall design are suggested in the comments: www.flyfishinchristian.wordpress.com/2010/04/24/diy-canoe-stabilizer-outrigger-float-or-something-like-that/

thinking of building a custom 4 way collapsible outrigging system, kind of like a water strider so i could put up and put out and pull in a 40lb cat

    • Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.
    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
    • I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
