Best Home Defense Shotgun...

In a word.... Don't.

I know Benelli is one of the best Shotgun manufacturers around, that's why I bought a Benelli Nova (w the Real Tree camo - looks awesome).

However, it will NOT fire 3-1/2" shells.

I sent it back to have it "fixed" and when it returned it was exactly the same.

In short, the hook on the bolt that grabs the rim of the shell and pulls it back in the ejection port DOESN'T GRAB.

The port itself is barely longer than 3-1/2" to begin with.

I always end up jamming a shell in the port on top of an empty shell that is still in the barrel.

From there I have to take the barrel off in order to remove the empty and then reassemble.

It IS a nice shotgun, fires 2-3/4" and 3" like a champ, but if you are looking to shoot 3-1/2" for duck hunting or something get a Remington.

Interesting.

Are you sure it isn't the ammo?

maybe the rim too wide.

I haven't heard anything like that, but it is worth investigating.

I wonder if the nova has the issue and not the supernova.

Not sure, I don't even try to fire 3-1/2" in it anymore.

Also keep in mind my Nova is from the earliest generations, I think I bought mine in 2002 or so.

Maybe they have resolved the issue.

Honestly, just go get a 12 gauge Mossberg pump.

I have had one for over 15 years, and have probably cleaned it 10 times, and have shot thousands of shells out of it.

They are cheap, and very reliable.

Teach the kids if they ever hear guns to roll off the bed, and stay on the floor. If they will do that you can use any "shot" you like.

I prefer Buck when in the house.

Now I am looking at where to keep the gun. My first instinct is our bedroom. Yes no? I also am thinking gun safe, but a biometric one instead of one with keys. I like the idea of a quick fingerprint scan to open it, seems like if something pops off at 3am that would be a faster way to go.

Its admittedly overkill but we’ve got 2 pistols and the shotgun in the bedroom. Then there is a rifle in the laundry room (backdoor) and a third pistol in the family room.

We approached it from the standpoint of accessibility without regard to time of day. we wanted to make sure there was a weapon available no matter where we were if someone forced their way in.

Exactly the way it should be approached. Always within reaching distance.
