Cam Newton On Year Of The Rookie (Nfl Network) Right Now

RECAP

The first 40 minutes of the show had hardly any Cam. They followed some rookies through the draft. Had a clip of Von Miller and Jake Locker hanging out in New York, some draft day footage etc. Then, after commercials, there was a segment on Aldon Smith and Von Miller. Highlights, sound FX, coaches and analysts commentary, things like that. Then there was a segment on AJ Green and Julio Jones with a little Torrey Smith thrown in. Then there was the bit on rookie quarterbacks about a half an hour in. I thought for sure Cam would be in this one but it was mostly about TJ Yates and Andy Dalton with a little Ponder and Gabbert in the mix.

Then after a commercial, it hits that Cam wasn't in the rookie QBs section of the show because he had his own section. The 40minute mark to about 50 minutes in is all Cam. The showed the usual clips: TD pass to SS vs. the Cards, throws to SS, Lafell, Oslen vs. the Pack, TD runs vs the Bears Flacons and Lions, the crazy scramble vs the Bucs, etc. Probably stuff we've all seen 10x before.

The clips that I hadn't seen in a while were: Arron Rodgers saying in the postgame how he was glad he played us early in the season because once Cam figures things out he is going to be something special, Mike Smith talking about how three people had Cam on this Houdini play and calling him unbelievable, some analyst saying Cam was great because he makes players around him better then a cut to Cam talking to DeAngelo on the sidelines telling him not to pause before a pitch and then a Williams touchdown run off the pitch right after. Some pretty cool things.

Show ended on a highlight reel and some music.

    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
