What's to stop us from just trading for someone else's 1st round pick next year?

Panthers are in a "win now" mode so I don't think you sit on a pick just because a certain player might be coming out next year when you have a guy right in front of you this year that you've rated as a 1st rounder and can draft for 2nd round money.

i think us tradeing the first next year will come back to haunt us..are schedule next year will not give us a 12-4 year..so i think we have traded a high first...and peppers will be 30 and i dont know if we could afford to tag him again next year..the cap hit would be high..

Just curious...So you think that it is completely impossible to go 12-4 next year? No one predicted us to do it this year...and if you think about it, what did we really lose? I less-than-sub-par CB and a horrible DC?

its not what we lossed its what we gained...a tough shedule that has no easy games like last year...

The schedule difficulty rankings are meaningless stats that make for interesting water cooler talk and not much else. The 2008 teams won't be the same as the 2009 teams.

And you're flattering Buffalo by saying we have no easy games.

every body knew going into the season Pitt had the hardest schedule last season..and turned out they did...same thing here we have a bad schedule..and not much will change with these teams...from last year..

We might have a hard schedule, but we have a bad ass team, so it should work out alright.

I fully expect us to have the best running game in the league next season.....and it shouldnt even be close. That along with the always great Steve Smith, and an improved defense makes me think that 12-4 shouldnt be impossible. At least double digit wins....

Good thing about a hard schedule is it keeps the team focused. The Panthers have had a tendancy to let up when a game is perceived as being "easy".

great point. this is one thing that makes me confident about the season. when we are the underdog team we always seem to play at another level and look unstoppable. when were favored heavily, like the Detroit game, raiders and even the playoff game we dont show up some reason. i cant think of alot of games next year that were gonna be favored by that much.

What is everybody forgetting because of their records last year, NFC South Teams would also get lots of difficult games, worst team in NFC was 10-6...

Do you think NFC South would be that good also, I don't think so, Panthers would not need 12-4 to go to playoff this season....

    • Everyone knew the catch was secured and didn't move. That was clear to the entire audience. The only ones who thought it wasn't a catch were in the NYC home office. They knew they'd just offer an apology the next day.
    • NEVER FORGET!!!!   Canales was on no one's radar. Tepper couldn't get anyone to come here. He was all in on Ben Johnson. Nobody wants to work with Tepper, however Canales tenure may prove important for the next guy. This guy still has no idea what he's doing.
    • The 4th down play was poor execution by Chuba. He didn't want to get physical like Rico and cut North South to lean on his blocks from Tremble and Ekwonu for half a yard. Also, the 3rd down play before that Bryce audibled out to a QB run and almost got the 1st down was on Chuba for not knowing the play call leading to poor execution. You can see Chuba's confusion when Bryce had to realign him. Then Chuba thought he was getting the handoff and was slow to develop his double team on the DE with Tremble. Then Chuba hesitated on pushing the block and just ran to the sideline making Bryce have to loop around him. This pulled the DE away from Tremble forcing Chuba to chip on the DE late and leaving the safety as a free defender. Chuba was suppose to double down on the DE to let Tremble peel off to the safety. This allows Bryce to set up his run to the inside or outside after the safety commits. You can also see Tremble walk over to talk to Chuba after the play and Chuba shrugs which tells me he didn't know what to do. The audible would have worked on 3rd and the dive would have worked on 4th. The plays were good calls and drawn up well. The question is why was Chuba unprepared for those plays in two critical back to back plays? I like Chuba as a 1st down RB and passing downs, but I have always seen him lacking the power and vision to be a short yardage power back. Chuba didn't come prepared for the Saints game or he was thrown into a position at the 3 spot that he was never prepared for.
