Carolina Panthers Round 1 Draft Selection - Luke Kuechly

Althought I am not thrilled with this pick, I see an up-side to it. He can allow Davis and Beason to come along slowly by taking reps while they rest. Giving him the opportunity to learn both positions. If they all can play, they can stay fresh by rotating. If one gets dinged up, he can start.

From what I have heard both Beason and Davis have been cleared to resume football conditioning. With the season still five months away, this is an encouraging sign. They should both be close to full go by then. I would hope.

Although I am not enamored with this pick. Koochy is a Panther. So.... And GOOOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop tripping out about the pick if you are. We've added a high character, high motor player with elite instincts and ability at the position. All that, 'he's not fast' talk is ridiculous. He's posted the highest 40 time in the combine of any of our potential starting LBs. Yes, bigger and faster than Beason who posted a 4.72 at 237. I love all of our LBs but if you don't think Kuechly has a chance to be as good(or better) as any of them then you don't really know who we just drafted.

The staff has already told LK that he will play every LB position and I'd assume they'd already told Beason the same. I'd expect to see them line up in all types of different positions and formations. Both players are dynamic and I can't wait to see the two on the field together.

As for Davis.. I just want to see that guy make it through a full season healthy. Kuechly takes a ton of pressure off of him and may help that goal become a reality. If you are expecting more than that I can't agree that train of thought is very realistic.

As for Anderson, I expect him to continue to be a solid player. He may end up being an odd man out, but I don't see how thats a concern right now. He's got the Sam locked down and is under contact through 2016. If anything its Davis who finds himself excepting a smaller role.

Welcome Luke.

lol but really, i love the pick. great LB and will start from day 1, allows t davis to come in on 3rd downs as a LB/S for blitz and mix defensive looks on front and secondary.

Well, after about 10 hours to stew and think on the pick, I've watched about every youtube highlight clip I could find trying to get myself excited about the pick. But I failed. Again, I'm not saying I don't think he'll be a good player. Just not a big enough impact on the defense to get me excited. Times like these it's good to be the kind of person that can just have faith. In Hurnivera we trust.

Great pick IMO. He is a beast. Thank god we did not pick Coples who was widely expected to be our guy. I was thrilled not to hear Coples but Kuchely. Now we have the best LB and RB corps in the league. Perfect!!!

Never ever, since I have been have been a Panthers fan, have we picked a guy that I wanted months in advance of the draft. Not only wanted, but practically begged to get. I love Beason, and I hope he comes back ready to go. But Kuechly, he is a special player. I am so excited for this guy to be part of Panther Nation, I can't even explain. Those that aren't, give it time, you'll come around soon enough.

^My sentiments, exactly.

    • MORGAN ON PLAY CALLER FOR CANALES   "I think that's really his [Canales'] call," he stated. "I think if he wants to promote somebody into being the play-caller or bring somebody from the outside. We haven't really talked about that. But that is something that I'm sure we'll talk about. We talk about every decision together. If he feels like he needs to add somebody or promote somebody into being the play-caller, then I trust him."
    • Dude, he cannot see the field, when his feet are not set he throws ducks.   What the fug are you watching?
    • I'm looking at the final drive, and that's where I'm laying the blame at Bryce's feet. Stepping up to the line, 38 seconds left, 3 time outs on the clock. 30 yards needed to attempt a FG. It's not Bryce's job to call the plays, that's DC's and it was terrible play calling.  It's Bryce's job to read what the defense is giving him at the line. The middle of the field is open. Rams are guarding against the deep ball and bringing pressure leaving the middle of the field ripe for the taking. Knowing his line not holding up for long, Bryce should have read the defense, called the audible, and thrown to the middle of the field for 6- 8 yards, like you said, quick slants would have worked. Then run either hurry up or call a TO. We had time. He has to make the adjustments. Any QB has to make the adjustments.  The pass Horn dropped hit his hands but was at his knees. Should he have slid and caught it? Probably. Was the pass a good one? No it wasn't. Both players were at fault, not just Horn. Let's not pretend that Bryce threw a beautiful pass that hit the receiver chest high right in the hands in perfect stride because that damn sure wasn't the throw.  The defense didn't choke away a lead. They never had a real lead. Choking away a lead is being up by multiple scores late in the 4th and losing. We were up by 4 and handed the ball back to a potential MVP with an All pro WR and potential future HoF WR2. One score games in the 4th are a slug fest. 28-3. That's choking away a lead.  I don't solely blame Bryce for the game, but you seem to solely blame the defense for the game because they went to prevent after losing Horn. You are forgetting the short field that the offense left them that led to the early Puka TD on one of our 2 failed 4th down conversions. Our defense has been given very limited resources over the past 3 years while we have tried to put everything possible around Bryce. We added a little bit to the D this year after giving up a NFL record in points last year. Our defense overachieved based on what they've been given to work with.
