Panthers sign two (Probably will get cut)

Recommended Posts

The Carolina Panthers have signed two players.

Panthers signed WR Marcus Monk, formerly of the Bears. Monk's size-speed combination was easy to like coming out of Arkansas a year ago, but that he couldn't catch onto an NFL practice squad as a rookie is concerning. Barring numerous injuries, Monk won't make the Panthers.

Panthers signed OL Justin Geisinger, formerly of the Redskins. Geisinger was a sixth-round pick in '05 out of Vanderbilt. He has some value as a backup guard/center, but has never started a game in his career.

I wouldn't be so sure. Marcus Monk is now officially my favorite to make it through camp and make an impact on the team. Dude is the son of the Hall of Fame receiver Art Monk, is 6'4 and runs a 4.5, not to mention went back to play college basketball after he was cut from the Bears/Giants last year. I think he has some potential, could be a bargain.

If he couldn't solidify a spot on the Bears, I don't think he even makes fourth receiver here.

Quite frankly, I think we only need to keep four true receivers this year, and they're already on the roster. I hope Goodson will be worked in as a receiver and return man.

Marcus is not related to Art Monk...actually they may be VERY distant relatives but Marcus has never met Art Monk. I'm a Razorback fan so im very familar with Marcus.

The panthers are my NFL team so im glad I found this place.

As far as Marcus goes this guy flat out catches EVERTHING that gets near him. His concern in the league is gonna be if he can get separation. I really think he will make the roster he's a great athlete. Had it not been for his knee injury prior to his senior season he probly would have been drafted in the first 4 rounds. He wont shake anybody or have a ton of yards after catch but this guy makes highlight reel catches look routine. Cant wait to see how all this plays out.

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
