Shirley Could Be The Odd Man Out In Dt Battle.

Every Interview I've heard from Marty or Ron when talking about the DT position they mention everybody but Shirley. 1st off let me say I liked Shirley a lot more then Fua, Krease, or McClain.

But Every interview it goes like this when talking about the DT position.

1. "Ron Edwards coming back will help a lot".

2. "The 2 3rd rounders (Fua, McClain) played well for rookies and are improving everyday".

3. They really r-e-a-l-l-y like Krease. They spend atleast 15-20 seconds talking about him.

4. Nebblet has played well in spot duty for us the last 2 years.

I'm very worried by the fact that Shirley is never mentioned.

I hope that Fua has gotten a lot stronger and bigger, or I would consider him to be the odd man out. And I agree with OP, I think that Shirley played better than almost of the other DTs.

Maybe they did nt mention his name, because they already think he will remain on the roster.

I would agree with you but they make it a point to talk about Krease for 25 seconds every interview when talking about the DT's.

I guess I'll let Rivera make those kinds of talent evaluations and not get worried about them. He might know a thing or two about what he wants

WTF does that mean?

Why do people keep bringing up the fact that the coach knows more then us?

I know that. It still doesn't change that we as fans can question moves and what the FO is thinking sometimes.

Why do we even have MB or Forums if what ever Ron or Marty do or say should never be question?

I like Shirley as well and 2 1/2 sacks in only 4 games of spot duty is better than anyone else by far. I hope he sticks around in camp so he has a chance to impress. If he sticks for awhile then he will get his shot to show folks what he can do. That is all he can ask.

I think it was Kalil who said that he thought Fua was going to be special. I think we will all be surprised at how much the DT position improved when we have Beason and Kuechly on the field.

As for Shirley getting sacks, they were about his only tackles. But in fairness, we need our DTs to do 3 things: 1. get double teamed, 2.Hold ground when getting double teamed, 3. Collapse the pocket.

There are no stats to measure these things, so I would be very careful about using stats to measure DT play.

It means what it says, what else would it mean and they haven't even made any decisions, they are 4+ months away from making that decision. Maybe they think Shirley sucks....who knows.

I don't know, but the things I have to worry about don't include decisions I don't have any control over.

Not really going off stats. I'm going by more of what I saw. Fua was 5 yards the wrong way before the play started. Shirley was pushing Olinemen in the backfield most plays he was in.

    • I'm happy with TMac, but Tyler Warren was last season's Tyler Linderbaum for me in that he was at a position that wasn't one of the five pillars but he was the best player at his position AND one of the top talents in the draft. I cannot fuging wait for the Panthers to start winning again so that those guys fall to us like they seem to for teams like Baltimore & Philadelphia.
    • Still working on consuming all of these so I don't have summaries available, but I figured there might be another Huddler or three trying to kill time before tonight's final preseason game.   Panthers Blueprint: Training Camp The in-house produced Blueprint series has given behind-the-scenes look on the field and off. Start the day with Robert Hunt's family, be in the morning meetings, mic'd up players during practice (Jaycee, Rozeboom, Icky, and Bryce), roster evaluations by the staff, and plenty of camp highlights capping off with FanFest.   Processing Blue (Mike Kaye & Alex Zietlow Mike and Alex are back talking about a variety of topics including but not limited to: joint practice + preseason game vs. Houston, Trey Hendrickson trade rumors involving Carolina, training camp awards, draft pick draft, and various thoughts about the team.   Jordan & Jake 706: Opening Day Another in-house Panthers' production, the most recent episode of Jordan and Jake talk about how to properly balance intensity in practice, react to the starters being shutdown for the preseason finale, share their thoughts on the newest Panther QB, and more.   Raw Room - Ep 278 - Gas Pedal (ft. Mike Davis) Assistant special teams' coach Darren Bates' Raw Room podcast has former Panthers' RB Mike Davis on his weekly podcast. I'm about halfway through this one and it's been a lot of fun. The Raw Room guys (DB, his friend Alex Sweets, former Eagles/Chargers OT King Dunlap, and former Atlanta DB Jalen Collins) are hilarious and Mike fits right in. They talk about his football experience coming up, decommitting from Florida and how he decided on South Carolina, and more. Warning: If you're the type of person that is easily distracted by accents, despite XL being on the team, you might have issues with understanding the Memphis dialect. If you don't care about how somebody talks, just what they're talking about, tune in!
    • Allen was borderline unplayable in College.  He's an absolute unicorn in terms of his career panning out the way it has.
