Got A New Job As An Auto Locator

Never done anything like this before. First day was kinda chill , it's a pretty easy job for the most part the only thing I don't like so far is how pay works. It's commission only , was kinda hoping for minimum or commission in case of bad weeks and what not.

Anyhow was just gonna ask the huddle if anyone has ever had a job similar to this and if so any tips you'd be willing to give?

what do you do?

I call dealerships and attempt to either take their excess inventory (vehicles only) and sell it or i'll attempt to sell them something i've gotten from another dealer.

@BB yeah it's really sketchy to me but my boss is a friend of the family and I don't have to pay for gas to get there so I mean i'm not losing any money in the process so we'll see how it goes.

ah ok. My mind immediately went to tracking down cars people weren't making payments for.

That sounded awful to me, but what you describe doesn't sound like a bad gig (except the lack of base pay).

Yeah like I said the job itself isn't all that bad it's 9 to 5 , 6 days a week. All I do is call from a list of numbers to try and set up potential clients. I got a couple 2012 F-150s ( we're looking for only fords at the moment ) and a 2012 fusion with eco boost i believe it was. Although it's a lot easier to get inventory than it is to sell it i've noticed.

Oooh, Commissions jobs are a double edge sword man. You have to hustle like no other. I personally didn't mind them. If I had a choice I wouldn't do them.

If I don't know the product well, I won't sell well. I rather know what I'm talking about than talk out of my ass to a customer.

That's a big thing for me right now , i'm not big on cars and trucks but I am really good with numbers so it's better for me to have to learn about that rather than the financial side I guess.

If he is a family friend than he may be more likely in taking an interest in helping you succeed. There are good commission only jobs out there but for every good one there are 10 bad ones.

It's a woman and yeah she asked for me specifically I'm the 2nd person she's hired in about a month and a half of being in business. She said i've always been one of the brightest people she knew and i've never told her a lie and that's the type she was looking for so I agreed to help her out and in turn she takes me to work everyday.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
