Beason..."kuechly Safer Pick Than Both Luck And Griffin"

Recommended Posts

I think Beason is just trying to keep his teammates fired up and focused. Beason has a lot of pride in his playing ability (which he should) and when he was hurt last year he had to endure watching the defense collapse and listen to how he was not going to come back as good as he was. The man is biting at the bit to get back on the field this season and he wants the rest of the defense as ready as he is.

I am absolutely amazed at how many people on both sides of the argument are completely missing the point that Beason said this pre-draft.

To make it worse, any number of people pointed this out throughout the thread. Yet some are still arguing the merits of his comments as if he made them yesterday.

Reading comprehension anyone?

Everything he's been saying has been specifically designed to build team chemistry. Rivera probably told him to. Same way he gets thrilled whenever Smitty and the rest of the team kick peoples' asses post-play. Ron doesn't want a team who takes poo.

Pretending that no injuries have ever occurred, I can see Beason and Kuechley sharing the spotlight and both players succeeding (which is what I think all of us hope for).

But, just concentrating on these two individuals, and the known facts...which is a more likely reality? Beason lighting it up and Kuechley MIA or Kuechley lighting it up and Beason MIA?

Beason states that Luke was a safer pick than both Luck and Griffin because the two young quarterbacks will need pieces around them to succeed. I think all three of these players have excellent careers ahead of them but Luke will see his success much earlier simply because the transition from a college to an NFL LBer is easier than it is for a QB.

last year the same argument was made for Dareus and Peterson against Cam.

it's a safer pick to a lot of people because the weight of a franchise doesn't bear down on a LB like it does a QB. It's the same argument that has been regurgitated like a redundant bird call out of your window every single year because for a lot of these dumb hick NFL fans, perception is reality, and as long as ESPN and the NFL network and every single other media source over analyze everything about QB play because it's so flashy and ignore simple truths like Patrick Peterson was one of the worst corners in the league last year and that Dareus didn't prove to be the anchor everybody thought he would be (at least not yet) because Buffalo's defensive line was still overall poo last year, QB is never going to be seen as a safe pick, while most of the QBs taken high since 2008 have been productive.

It doesn't take a lot for a "safe" pick guy to earn the perception that he's not a bust besides some colorful stats, and 16 games and 140 tackles from now, Luke will effortlessly earn that reputation even if he turns out to be horrid in pass coverage, terrible at blitzing, and ineffective at run support (not that I think he will underperform like that). On the other side of the coin look at all the critique Cam faces even after breaking countless rookie QB records.

He didn't say anything bad about Luck or RG3. He just stated that a top LB is a safer pick than a top QB. He's right too.

go ask Beason if it was last year and his 3 choices were Luck, Griffin, and Kuechly who he would pick

"SURELY WE ROCK WITH LUKE AND START CLAUSEN AT QB AND THIS FRANCHISE IS GOING PLACES FOR REALZ"

He didn't say that, either. He said safer, not better. "Safe" in terms of a draft pick means that the floor is high. An unsafe pick has a low floor, but can have an extremely high ceiling. One isn't necessarily better than the other.

Von Miller was a far safer pick than Cam Newton last year. That doesn't make him better or more valuable by any stretch of the imagination.
