My 11 year old son bought me this

My birthday was within the last few days and I just now found out that my 11 year old son emptied his piggy bank to get me my Cam Newton jersey (thought my wife bought it). Granted, it is the cheap one but how can I complain when someone that makes $5 a week in allowance gets me a present like this? I let him get on here, on the Huddle with me after I have filtered the "good stuff" but he is a true Panther fan and I had to give him an off-season post of his own. He set up and took the picture of the jersey and told me to post it tonight so I am doing it.

Bwood, Ivantheawesome and JtGreensboro, you guys are his favorites posters (no offense to you other guys).

He has become so excited about football because of this surge in Panthers popularity that he has informed me that he is going out for football this up-coming school year (he has always played baseball exclusively before now). He is pretty big so I hope he makes the team.

His mother and I paid him back btw, so now his Pig-account is back to over a C-note but I just thought it was cool and he deserved a shout out.

I know many of you will flame me but if you are a father that gets a $100 jersey from your kid, you would understand.

Ah man that's really sweet. Not a father but I know that shows how much he cares and looks up to you. Best of luck with making the team, no matter what I know he'll make you proud. Keep pounding little man, can't wait till you're old enough dear ol' Dad will let you have an account and come post with the big boys.

He loves the Panthers. He is obsessed now. And that jersey will never get thrown away. Like every father should think, I think he is the greatest kid ever. It was 3 days after the fact I found out he bought it on his own. I have to admit I cried a little. Not because of the jersey but because he gave all he had to buy it. I think I will keep him. :)

That is awesome!

I am a father. my almost twenty month old, and my adopted twelve year old. I'd never expect (nor want) them to spend their earned money on me.

so i can understand the shock. surprise, and pride you must feel!

congrats!

Thanks brother. I don't deserve it but I just about fell out when my wife explained the whole process to me. He gets the same treatment from me when we go to our first game, he just doesn't know it yet.

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
