Breaking down Jonathan Stewart's deal

I look at it like this. NO had what appeared to be zero cap room and still managed to retain most of their talent AND sign Brees to a record deal. According to that article we may only have 18 guys in that scenario, but they are all starters and HUGE pieces to what RR is trying to build. They will restructure whomever needs to be restructured, cut dead weight and money, and pick up ancillary pieces on the cheap, just as they've done for 17 years. Hell, as recently as this year there was a major panic because we were somehow like $6MM over the cap, and not only managed to get under it, but got $8MM under it and resigned Stewart, whom most on here thought was 100% going to be gone due to the Williams deal. That's why I don't stress it until its time to stress it. Not because I'm a "Hurney Magikz!!1!!1" guy, but because things seem to work themselves out financially for this team for as long as I've been a fan of it.

And I do think we will find a way to sign Cam. I just don't know how we will ever be able to make any significant upgrades on defense with all our money tied up on the other side of the ball. We better hit on defensive draft picks from here on out.

I doubt Cam will care that a team wanting to pay him long term doesn't have the means to signficantly address trying to build a championship caliber roster quickly around him. This isn't my first BBQ, what will seal the deal is Cam knowing we can run the ever living poo out of the football here.

lol you act like questioning the front office affects my whole life. This a fan board....where you talk about the team. Just because I say I think they are screwing up doesn't mean I'm in panic mode or my whole life is going down the drain. If you let things like this bring you down, you have issues. But questioning something is completely normal.

you can question without worrying or stressing over it.

you threw out that blanket "if you aren't worried, you're an idiot" stuff. i just threw it back.

I disagree with that. Cam doesn't take losing very lightly. If we aren't a contending team, I could see a scenario with him wanting to leave.

Is it being an idiot to have an opinion about it?

did i say anything about having an opinion about it?

did i say anything about not questioning the management?

a big nope on that.

dude said that if you aren't worried about it then you're an idiot. i disagree. like i said, worrying about things you have no control over is more idiotic.

I think that post you were responding to was sarcastic. Implying why Cam would want to be on a team that didn't have a great supporting cast to win in this league.

Tell me, how have those 17 years gone for us?

I'm not trying to be a dick. I'm just tired of the same old thing. Yes, we can restructure these deals. But the bad contracts still put us in bad situations. It's like we're fighting to keep our head above the water every year.

The cap numbers are high, sure.

But do people honestly think JR and Hurney are dumb enough to hand out contracts like its Madden, without having any kind of plan/knowledge of what they're going to do a year or two from now and beyond? Call me a dreamer, but I'm thinking they're going to make the cap space to sign Cam and all the key pieces of the team.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
