No Spoon left to get paid like Morgan (which he should have because he was the more dependable of the 2). We should have gave Spoon the better contract and Morgan the "good contract".

Facts are we lost Spoon because we couldn't pay him what he was worth.

it's absolutely amazing how many people don't know what they are talking about, yet say it as if it's fact.

Spoon was offered a very good contract to play outside linebacker. That contract was similar in money to the contract that morgan signed. Mid 20 mil.

Spoon left that offer on the table to be paid to llay mlb. 35 mil at the time.

I'm glad the panthers didn't overpay spoon.

ok. I'm officially living under a rock. What the fuc is PFF and why is it the holy grail that is being held up as a standard for anything?

Just a website. They breakdowm every play for every player in the NFL. A view from another perspective. Not fact. It has flaws. But they are developing a good reputation for what they do.

Normally they are in the ballpark. You can nitpick little things with them. A guy is a little better here a little worse there. When they list someone as horrible at something....they are usually spot on.

But like I said, that is just an easy link for why Godfrey sucks....not the end all be all of the arguement.

I don't get it. I mean you can contort mathematical data to say what ever you want. Don't know why that is held in high regard around here. it's all beside the point anyway. Back to the safety discussion. And thanks london67 for the answer.

I mean if player X throws 25 INT.....it isn't all just twisted math. Those are examples of poor play.

Godfrey not being able to tackle in the open field is just reality.

We don't need Safeties that plays the ball 1st and can't tackle because we don't have a legit #2 CB, yet. Until the #2 CB is in place, we need a Safety that can tackle 1st and play the ball 2nd and when I say tackle 1st, I mean a wrap-up tackle, not a Martin tackle.

Not Martin and not Godfrey

that link doesn't say anything of value for the argument at hand

you constantly post bs thinking it's proof of something when in reality it's completely irrelevant

Hey dumbass why don't you read the whole thread. The post was in response to the Spoon vs Morgan debate the thread had derailed to.

PS: If my post are so irrelevant. Then why do you keep reading them?

IIRC, we had Chris Draft who at the time was an extremely good backup at MLB and a solid starter at that position.

We needed a OLB and could take a hit if Morgan went down (who could have been HOF if healthy). Unfortunately, Spoon left anyway for about the same dough..

I think there was more to it than Morgan -vs- Spoon.. Our team dynamics happened to work out where Spoon should have been a pro bowler year in and year out instead of turning into a mediocre MLB..

obviously it was his decision, but as GM, it seemed like a good move at the time..

I know everybody keeps saying this but I would really like to see a "link" to the contract we offered Spoon.

I could be wrong but I don't remember him even getting a offer. Now your saying he turned down about the same money to go to St. Louis. I'm sorry I don't believe it. Morgan and Spoon were like Dwill and Stewie is now. Best of friends. Even their girls were best friends. They went on vacation together and even had a few joint business ventures. Spoon didn't want to leave Charlotte and I know this for a fact.

So I really need to see a "link" about this contract offer and him leaving because he wanted to be MLB so bad.

I'll look around, but as far back as 2006 it's been reported that 2 contracts were offered and Witherspoon wouldn't sign his.

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
