If you want better players, you got to spend money. It's that simple.

Dude you don't just spend money on players that won't add much in terms of playing time. That's not how it works. You have to consider value and want them to be a sure thing. We wouldn't spend money on a backup QB, why do it for a backup TE who isn't all that different from two other starters. It's that simple.

I would prefer waiting till final cuts are made and doing some serious evaluation on if there are any additions that are better than our 53 man roster.

I am assuming there might be talent at DT, Cb, and or safety that could improve our backup situation. I believe our offense is pretty intact. I like the tlght ends, and wr's. They know chuds system and I believe our offense will not be in issue.

If Olsen or Barny got hurt, would you rather have Brockel come in and play TE? Or would you rather it be Cooley?

If Tolbert got hurt, would you rather Brockel play FB/HB? Or would you rather it be Cooley?

I am sure everyone wants better players all around. Would you rather have a better backup QB if Cam got hurt? A number 1 WR option if Smith is out? But, money doesn't grow on trees and you have to use it wisely. Use it in places where it'd have a greater effect, like defense.

You are assuming 3 people get hurt. If you want to take that view, fine with me. But that's not the way I look at it, especially when it comes to the offensive side. We have weapons all around that would compensate if one of those guys went down.

Shockey(still available)>>>>>>>>Cooley(still washed up)

yeah, i'd rather have shockey.

from what i heard cooley is thinking about hanging it up. said he doesn't want to wear another jersey.

shockey might be retiring just so he could bang his wife and hang out at the beach...or he might just be holding off signing a deal so he can keep doing that for a while longer.

How is assuming 3 prople to get hurt? You only need ONE of those people to get hurt, then Brockel is getting significant playing time. Also I doubt that Cooley will receive a large contract IF he continues playing.

If one of those guys goes down, we'll be fine.

If Olsen goes down, put Barnidge in. We still have weapons in Stewart, DeAngelo, Tolbert, Smith, and LaFell.

If Tolbert goes down, use Brockel as the HBack every so often. But we played last year without a FB so it wouldn't be a big deal. And again we have Stewart, DeAngelo, Olsen, Smith and LaFell.

If Barnidge goes down, then we still have Olsen and others.

All 3 would have to go down for it to be worth signing him.

    • If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.
    • And what is x gunna help with except show him what not to do. Plus for the first year and a half he was just an obstacle
    • I understand that some people want WR. I am solidly against using yet another high pick there. Coker is pretty good and we used No picks on him.  What I think we really need at WR is a little bit of a Smitty lite. It is ridiculous to say let’s get a Smitty because you just can’t do that, but someone not tall and long striding but more in his mold. I think we’d have a pretty well rounded group.    Looking at tackle, with replacing Moton looming, it just seems like the no brainer.  You fill in Icky short term. Depending on how he recovers, and how the new guy plays, you go from there. A tackle at 19 is most likely either a LOT, a ROT, or a big talented guard, at worst. We will need all three in the next couple of years.  I would love to have a stud ILB be there at 19 but the OL is the responsible thing to do I believe.
