2013 Draft Picks

The San Francisco 49ers are now in possession of Carolina's 3rd & 7th round picks for the 2013 draft. The 3rd was traded in order to draft Frank Alexander, while the 7th was sent for Colin Jones (whom the Panthers apparently have had their eye on since the last draft).

Louis Murphy came at the cost of a 4th or 5th round selection.

This leaves the team with a 1st, 2nd, 4th OR 5th, and a 6th round pick.

Do you think that this is a sign that the coaching staff likes what they're working with? Is this another reason that you hate The Hurney Badger? I don't see the team being able to trade up with the lack of ammunition, which makes me wonder if they're looking to trade one of the vets as the season goes on, or when the draft comes around. Obviously the draft is a ways off, so there isn't any reason to panic (but don't let that stop you!), but it does pose a few interesting questions.

I don't know where you got your information about Murphy but he was traded for a 7th round pick. Not a 4th or 5th. We have those.

Leaves us with 5 picks. Still don't know if they will get compensatory picks next year yet. A lot of players left for other teams. So there could be 6 and 7th comp picks.

this draft i could see rounds 1&2 both dlineman, mainly to work on our pass rush. a DE and DT, depending on how hardy plays this year.. 5th round if he enters im all for taking the honey badger and trying him at FS, i know he's acorner but he's a ballhawk, this team has immense potential, we just dont need any busts

I thought Murphy was traded for a later round pick. Like a 6th or 7th

Link please? I was looking around before I posted the thread to see what exactly was traded. The only specifics for Murphy was that it was a late round 2013 pick (and one said it was a 4th/5th), but Jones was for a 2013 7th. A lot of the articles seemed to conflict with one another, even though they weren't on bleacherreport T_T

Doing some more clicking around, here's what I've gotten on the Murphy trade:

http://www.yardbarke...rolina/11279404

Per multiple sources the Raiders have traded Louis Murphy, a former 4th round selection out of Florida, for a 4th or 5th round selection in next year's draft.

but... http://espn.go.com/n...a-panthers-pick

A source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter the pick is a seventh-round selection.

I suppose we'll just have to wait until they disclose the exacts of the trade. :(

EDIT: Derp, yardbarker. Oh you, you had me there for a minute.

Joe Person told me on twitter.

Remember it was Murphy for a 7th and Otah for a 7th to the Jets.

We were the middle team in a 3 team trade...or something.

"The Raiders surprise move today which sent wide receiverLouis Murphy to the Panthers carries with it some positives. The trade was for a conditional seventh round pick which isn't ideal compensation, however for Murphy who was likely going to be buried on the Raiders depth chart this season, getting anything in return for him is good"

Just looked around a few more articles on NFL.com, and it has Colin Jones as a 2014 7th rounder. A bunch of message boards and blogs had it down as a 2013. >.<

So the team would still have a 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6. That sounds a lot more reasonable than what all of those different reports had me thinking :P

    • I read an article a few days ago that places like Seattle green bay and a few others are revoking tickets rights to holders that sell 100% of their tickets. That would do a lot of good league wide for bringing back some home field advantages. We aren't the only team who's stadiums get over run by visitors. It happens basically everywhere. That would go a long way to bringing ticket costs down
    • yeah, you can basically copy and paste my thoughts from this time last year.   We are building an O more suited for Jake Delhomme than Bryce Young.  Tmac and XL sound great for the downfield gunslinger  Give them opportunities to make plays.  From what I have seen, and the scouting stuff I have read.....TMac does not project as a get open quick WR.  He is going to have to work on getting off the line at this level, getting open, etc.  Which is all good.  This you go to think people will be studs out the gate or you are hater logic just ain't what I do.   Take my XL stance last year.  I lobbied hard for him.  When we drafted him I immediately told folks to pump their breaks on the wild expectations.    If XL legitimately turned into what I think he can be.....his best setup in the league would not be paired w/ a QB like Young.  if Bryce was going to be the dude, I would have lobbied for Ladd vs XL.  I was an XL guy.   And again, I would have gone Warren/Jeanty this draft.   I would have invested in small ball talent for him to be the PG for.
    • @TheBigKatare you going to Arizona? I'm thinking about making a road trip again. Haven't venture out since we got spanked in Miami a couple years ago
