Williams flat out doesn't fit

There's a lot of people talking like they know something about football. Not to say that I do but anyone can look at the fact that D-Will averaged about .001 yard a carry in this game. That tells me he had nowhere to run. No lanes, no open field and most of the Bucs defense in his face as soon as he took the handoff.

If Stew is running the same play he would do no better. It would be the same result.

I guess he didn't fit so that is why he ran for over 5 yards a carry. He had the second best statistical year since he came here. it that is not fitting, I hope he doesn't fit again this year as well.

It was actually his 3rd best statistical year and barely better than his 4th. Take 1 play out and he averaged 4.94 yards per carry. Take out his 2 longest runs and he averaged 4.5 yards per carry.

What this tells me is outside of two runs which are anomalies his average is much lower and he was more likely to give us something closer to 4 yards everytime he carried the ball vs the 5.4

Part of the reason we might have not transitioned into a more traditional offense is because Cam still isn't comfortable taking the snap from under center. Which would be why we didn't run a scheme more suited to D Will's strengths. It hurt's Cam's strengths too much or he's not ready for those offensive schemes.

All I know is Cam and Williams were not on the same page with the running yesterday. Heck one hand off looked like it took a good 5 seconds before Cam got his hands back off the ball and let D Will go. He was indecisive on whether he should let Williams take it or take it himself.

The bad Oline problem just made it look even worse.

Williams isn't being blamed for anything.

No different than saying Greg Olsen didn't fit what Mike Martz did in Chicago. He still made plays. Just wasn't an ideal place for him.

Chug isn't stupid. He saw that game and how it was ineffective. Last year he was willing to do a bunch of different plays and schemes just to suit this offence.

There is no reason to think Chud cant or won't shift the running style in Williams favor if it is to benefit this offence and/or Stewart is out longer. We have the personnel to run it.

touched on this subject on another forum.

more than any other season in his career, williams's stats were seriously skewed last season by his occassional big plays.

without them, his numbers were desaun foster-like.

this makes a lot of sense...and can develop into a BIG problem.

Early on ESPN did a breakdown last year they stated Newton was a significantly better passer under C than in shotgun...

Would be interesting to see a full season breakdown

I personally don't think it has much to do with fitting in the scheme for Williams. I think he could succeed in our system if he had less milage. I just think he is on the downswing of his career. He has lost a step. I think Stewart, among other things, is better than Williams because he can turn seemingly bad plays into better ones. He doesn't go down on first contact. Williams needs lanes to be effective and that could be achieved in this system just like the next.

No it was his second best year from a yards per carry point of view and TDs as a function of carries. Total yards is a quantity stat and only impressive to casual fans.

You don't take portions of stats out and then cherry pick the rest to prove a point. Big runs are what makes William's so explosive and why Rivera calls him a homerun hitter. You can't take those away and then try to look at his remaining numbers. Both of those long runs were touchdown runs against division rivals. Yeah lets just forget those and count the rest..

Stupid logic at best.

I think if williams was running behind a better Oline and a FB his number would be better.

OL is fine. They are one of the better run blocking lines in the NFL.

OL wasn't asked to run block for Williams on Sunday....that was the problem.

but explosive does not equal effective.

20 carries for 100 yards looks like a good game on paper.

..but when 1 of those carries is 62 yards, the other 19 averaged out to 2 ypc. the rb is more a liability than an asset.

You are the passive aggressive version of TRD. Never wrong...only difference is TRD was a better poster.

A casual fan does not spend their time on a sports website dedicated to their team. Stupid logic = looking for anomalies. I think youmight not understand statistics. It's ok.

And in reality...Total yards means as much as yards per carry.

Rock Cartright had an 11.3 yards per carry

Jonathan Dwyer had 7.7 yards per carry

I guess that means they are better....

In 2011 DeAngelo hit a "homerun" 1.2% of the time he carried the ball....he's the Derek Jeter of the NFL.

All the while his salary could have gone to a more important position...one of our weaknesses.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
