NFL Sunday Ticket on PlayStation 3?

I can't get DirecTV at my house so I was able to sign up for NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go where I can watch games online through my PC, iphone, tablet, etc. Right now, on Sundays I connect my laptop to my flat screen using an HDMI cable so that I can watch games through my TV. It's cool but annoying because I can't use my laptop.

I was looking at DVD Blu-Ray players, especially this Samsung one with SmartTV after I read that it included a FULL web browse to surf the web. I asked the guy at Best Buy if it was a FULL browser or a stripped down one, but he didn't know. Long story short, I got it tonight and the browser has no flash, so I can't load the game player at directv.com.

It does come with some apps to stream live sports like mlb.tv but nothing related to NFL Sunday Ticket or DirecTV.

I did read that the Playstation 3 does offer this. Does anybody know if that's true? Is this for full DirecTV customers or would me, with just the To-Go NST package be able to stream games too?

I'm asking because I don't play video games and this is a lot to sink on something just to watch games on Sunday.

You could always take back the Blu Ray player and use that to offset some of the cost of buying a PS3 since you can just play the blu rays on the console. If you're not into video games at all, though, it does seem like a pretty steep investment unless you really watch a lot of blu ray or streaming Netflix. As far as running the app, Probably any PS3 model should work, but I would at least shoot for the slim model that came out around 2009 or so as opposed to the original design.

What is the difference between the different Playstation 3 models out there? Just the overall memory size? I assume if I don't download games, memory isn't going to matter? I might even try to find a used one if the specs are the same.

modern systems install games like computers usually a gig or two a pop... and save files take up a lot of space... you can just buy one with a small drive and replace the hard drive... it's ridiculously easy.

Yeah, the memory size is the difference, you can buy as little as a 20gb ps3 or as large as a 320 gb.

Right now, you could get a refurbished 40gb PS3 from Gamestop for about 199. I'm sure Amazon or EBay has them going for even cheaper.

I would not recommend a refurbished PS3, I actually think a straight up used one would be a safer bet. The 160gb PS3 should be perfect for you. What it uses the hard drive for is buffering streaming content. So if you have netflix, hulu, or sunday ticket it will store a few minutes ahead to smooth out play if your signal temporarily weakens. Also the program that sunday ticket, netflix, etc run in are saved onto that hard drive so you don't need to insert a dvd.

It sounds like you already figured this out but let me caution you further against buying any sort of "smart tv", "smart dvd", or gaming console for it's web browser. These things are always of the poorest quality and are a gimmick to get you to buy.

If you are willing to wait and see the Wii U is releasing this year and it may have the features you desire. It may also have some new tech that the ps3 lacks. I'd at least research it.

I have the original model PS3. I haven't used Sunday Ticket, but it still shows up in the PS store. That leads me to believe it would work on any model.

I don't know if this is true for all PS3s, but it is definitely true for mine: streaming sucks. I doubt the problem is my internet connection, because it sucked in Germany, in Washington and two different places in NC while I had no trouble streaming on PC or Xbox. Netflix streams very slow and youtube is almost unwatchable... plays 5 seconds, buffers three minutes, plays 5 seconds.

I have a Playstation3 slim, or whatever it's called - the second generation PS3 after the original. Mine has always streamed fine. I can stream mlb.tv games on full HD resolution, likewise with netflix. So, in your case, it's either your machine, internet, or router, and not an overall problem with PS3 streaming.

Yeah I didn't think it would have been a widespread problem since I haven't heard much about it. I've tried many configurations: wired, wireless, straight to modem, wireless access point, wireless router, wireless modem, cable, dsl, etc. Everything else works great. Streaming just sucks on my system.

I have a newer PS3, 160 GB. I have the NFL Sunday Ticket package for it and I think it's a great deal for out of market fans. Comes with the redzone channel and thru the first two weeks I've had no issues with it...really all depends on how good your internet connection is.

    • Seems to me that the Bucs have less fight in them now than they had in week 16. The real test is going to be if the Panthers can sustain focus and discipline throughout. With the Bucs being at home, maybe that gives them a little boost of confidence and energy.  Wouldn’t it be something if for ONCE the Panthers came out and dominated from the opening snap and just took this shook Bucs team to task?  If the Panthers see-saw form follows, we are in line for the W. Hard to say we have momentum but we do have a pretty clear pattern of following a loss with a win.  I’m going to say 24-16 Panthers!!
    • When Parcell’s said Bryce better “walk on water”…..the implied concern wasn’t that the tiny QB could survive being hit.  It was acknowledging he would have to be extremely special to overcome the handicaps he would face at this level.  Which he isn’t and can’t.  which isn’t just being hit.  It’s being able to play in an NFL pocket and make NFL throws from it….and that ultimately is Bryce’s problem.  He doesn’t play well from a NFL pocket and can’t make all the throws as needed.  He can’t see as others can.  Which impacts the throws he does and doesn’t take.  It also impacts him bailing and killing plays and turning them into scrambles/dead plays
    • 9:30 kick off here in Scotland, which is better than the 01:20 early hours of Monday that I feared. Will definitely be watching, but probably wouldn't if it had been 0120 as I need to be up for work at 05:45. Falcons Saints is 6pm on the Sunday so will watch that too if it becomes relevant
