What position do we take in the first round?

wanted to watch this weekly as the season unfolds....might be interesting at the end of the year to see how it changes.....with one win and one loss under our belt, what position would you address in the first round?

left tackle

right tackle

wr

cornerback

safety

dt

de.

I can't imagine another position at this point, but maybe you can.

Alexander and Norman both looked pretty good yesterday, so I'm down to DT or WR.

It's a deep DT draft, so I'm gonna go WR in the first, DT in the second.

Of course that could change next week, which is the point of this thread.

I think the number one thing we have to look for is a #1 type receiver. If he is there take him. Of course he wouldn't be number 1 until steve smith retired but giving us another great threat would be huge. Plus it won't hurt to learn from Smith.

The next position I'd look at would be OT or OG. Gross isn't getting any younger and we could definitely solidify the other guard spot opposite of Silatolu and have 2 great young guards to have together for a long time on both sides of Kalil protecting Cam.

After that I think we have to look at safety. We need a first round type safety. I feel like we have been putting it off for a while. I think Godfrey is decent enough to start but I feel like Nakamura is just holding down the fort until we get a young permanent starter there.

2 other positions I would look at would be corner and tight end. I don't think corner is that desperate right now but who knows what we have in Hogan and Gamble is definitely getting up there in age. Another big time TE would be nice to have opposite of Olsen.

I agree with a lot of what you said but my priority would be FS, DE, or WR...whichever has the bpa given our pick

Getting a ballhawk FS, a more than one-trick-pony DE, or a top tier WR would help us the most imo

It's gotta be a DT or DE. WR and FS can be had in the later rounds.

I don't see it being a DT. I'm not going to be gunning for one a third draft in a row. (Dareus, Cox,...)

DE yes...though I don't know much about the talent in that area coming out. Okafor?

TJ McDonald at FS...yes, Justin Hunter at WR sure. We've got a ways to go though

Because our DT spot has two older players manning the trenches at the moment. They're doing a good job, but it might be better to bring someone in who can sit and learn the system for a year or two for a change.

Honestly, it depends on where we pick. If we have a later pick, we could see S or OG. If we're an earlier one, I can see OT or DT, or even CB if Norman doesn't pan out well enough.

This early in the season, though, it's kind of pointless to speculate.

I really seriously don't get where everyone is getting that we need to go with dline. I think our Dline is pretty solid. We definitely have bigger issues.

Because its good and serviceable but can still improve. The game is won and lost in the trenches.

I'm waiting on this season we're playing to see the verdict on Hardy. We'll know how good it is by the year's end...and by the year's end I mean January/Feb. As Rivera says "It's a process"

Please take care of DE/DT in free agency.

We need young, speedy, aggressive DB's. Depending on how Norman pans out will determine whether we look for a free safety or a corner.

I think LaFell has proven to be our #2, and Smitty isn't going anywhere. WR can wait till the later rounds.

We need to replace Hangartner in FA or early in the draft.

Yeah I get that but like I said, we have much bigger issues. I am definitely more concerned with our secondary than our line. Ron Edwards is signed for another year or 2 and I'm sure Dwan isn't going anywhere. I'd rather sign another DT through FA than draft another bust in the draft. The only way we would get a good one is if we get a top 5-10 pick and take the best one or 2 available. Draft somebody that serves a real need in the first round. If there is a good DT in the second then take him. I get that the game is one in the trenches but our oline has bigger issues than the dline.
