Rivera should be praised for fielding a prepared team

Yes, I know we didn't win. Yes, I know there are plenty of people that only see the outcome of games in black and white (Win good, loss baaddd), but I think Rivera did a good job making adjustments from last week's public molestation. We went from looking like a team that had no business playing in this league (let alone playing on primetime) to almost exposing an undefeated team on the road. There are a lot of people on here that think Rivera doesn't actually do anything but show up to the games and stand there.

He did a good job telling Chud to quit his sh*t with all the shenanigans and play big boy football again. We saw a lot more snaps with Cam under center, focused on variety over trickeration, and we were determined to set up the run little by little instead of focusing only on hitting 40 yard gimmick plays. There was still plenty of tricks, but you can't just throw out your entire playbook when it doesn't work in one game. He did a good job telling McDermott to quit running pussy zone all game. Our defensive line looked incredible yesterday, and I find it sad that a lot of people aren't giving credit to the defensive gameplan for how effective they were at pressuring Ryan. Some huddlers are perfectly content with thinking the d-line played well despite of everything and everyone else, when really it was our corners playing closer to the receiver and being allowed to get physical that disrupted the Falcons' timing and gave our D-line the time needed to get to Ryan. Something that was completely absent last week.

Rivera also did a great job showing loyalty to nobody. Joe Adams costs us plenty of opportunities last week. Do you wait and see if he does it again? Not Rivera. Joe Adams was only allowed to watch from the sidelines, and I hope that everyone got the message that sloppy play will not be tolerated. Beason was given considerably less playing time after the half. Yes, a player with a "C" on his jersey was sat down because of how poorly he was playing. People think that just because Rivera stands there on the sideline stoically that he gives absolute control of the game to his coordinators and keeps his mouth shut. We do have to remember that he is still learning though. Just because he doesn't take out Nakamura the second he makes a mistake or two, doesn't mean he's a coach that is content with making no adjustments. Maybe next time he sees sloppy and irresponsible play like this, he will act a lot sooner.

Rivera showed some serious inexperience and lack of fire during the 2 minute drill at the end of the first half (well, it should have been a 2 minute drill). He may not have run the ole Fox plan of "run the clock out so they can't score more points on us", but he clearly started playing for the field goal instead of trying to get a touchdown. The result? We end up with no field goal and no touchdown. Bad, Rivera, bad. A lot of people question not going for it on 4th down, but I think he made a good call with the punt. 99.9% of safeties in this league would have never allowed White to run past them while running fuggin' prevent defense. Some people think "well, Rivera should have known how unreliable our safeties are", but let's be honest, did any of you actually know how "unreliable" Nakamura was until he gave up that 60 yard bomb? "Yeah, I already knew that. He's a bum. I know everything." No, you didn't know. Nobody knew how terrible Nakamura could be until after that play. Everyone at the stadium, everyone at home, Rivera, everybody sh*t themselves when he gave up that play. How was anybody supposed to know it was possible for a starting safety to even sh*t the bed as hard as Nakamura did? Are we really going to blame Rivera for this?

Rivera showed everybody that he's willing to make huge adjustments when things aren't working even though he also showed that he still has a lot to learn in this league. Rivera is a lot more active running the team than many think and can be down right aggressive with his calls. People who think that this team looking competitive on Sunday was completely by accident should be ashamed. Let's hope that Rivera and the rest of the team learn a lot from this game and leave Atlanta thinking about how different and improved they looked compared to last week instead of "We did the best we could and we're still bad." A lot of huddlers think like this and these kinda thoughts lead to 2-14 seasons, depression, masturbating in rage, and autism.

TL;DR moral victory, huddle dumb, Rivera 2016, RA RA

This is all pretty good. I have been anti-Rivera since day 1 but the team came out pumped on offense and defense and we should have won. I'm tired of losing but that was one of our most prolific games on all 3 sides of the ball in 3 years.

The punt was not a bad call.

But i need a winning season soon!

I agree with the majority of your post. But I knew nakamura had no business in there before that last drive. The same thing happened on that bomb td pass to white earlier in the game. He had been allowing white to get behind him all game, then falling backwards in front of him allowing the completion and preventing others from making a play on the ball. I fully expect Rivera to handle it the same way he handled Adams. No jersey for nakamura next week.

    • I want the conversations at season's end to be more about what else we need to build onto the foundation to be playoff contenders and less about the fultility of drafting yet another QB and hiring yet another coach because as long as Tepper is the owner, it doesn't matter what this team does.
