Thought there were more penalties. I guess whenever they happen it seems bad.

Flags not flying: The Panthers’ offense is the second-least penalized offensive unit in the NFL, with just 25 through five games. The defense is the second-least penalized defensive unit, with 20.

Rivera attributed that to the team’s discipline in practice.

“We’re working on the discipline of not jumping,” Rivera said. “This year a lot of it has been our technique, we’ve gotten better at it. Guys understand more of what we’re trying to do. We’ve talked about the discipline of staying onside because that was one of our big issues last year.

“As far as the holding being down, I think that has to do with the guys working their techniques and being more comfortable in the scheme offensively and defensively.”

I agree with the timing of the penalties being the reason they stick out more. Some just stick out more than others. Third down penalties that stall drives drive me nuts.

IMO, becoming more disiplined will only make us a better team. So this is just another positve step up the ladder to success.

Tackle better, and kick Chud in the brain. Two things that could reverse our fortunes, right now. Cuz the D and ST are doing a pretty good job. When we get the O to find its wheels. That is when the fun begins.

I am still excited, obviously, so any positive is fuel for the giddy. So thank you for the nugget.

i mean it's not like our defensive backs are ever close enough to anyone to interfere

i'd rather see them earn some PI calls rather than give away 10-15 yards per passing play.

this playing soft coverage crap has to stop.

i'm just glad that rivera acknowledged it. i just hope that he does something about it.

    • I think you should see the OP for pretty big reasons why that is a completely incorrect take given this is a Dave Canales team.
    • TMac is a good player and would've been the right pick if our QB could throw a ball farther than 40 yards. For this team's current build (run first, game management passing attack) and the fact that our TE's are laughably bad - the five on our roster have combined for less than 600 yards total, with 3 TDs - Warren should've been the pick.
    • If anyone feels like they can't have a conversation about Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career maybe assess why and how these conversations end this way instead of looking to shoot the messenger. Why is it okay to label anyone else on the team or coaching staff trash? Folks on the huddle and across the fanbase on social media have fully thrown anyone and everyone including rookie 8th overall pick TMac fully under the bus multiple times this season. But some of you guys apparently expect a pat on the back because Bryce Young successfully evaded a few potential sacks while Tyler Shough got consumed by our pass rush throughout the game and still had a superior performance. The state of this division is hilariously mediocre at best. Bryce Young is the only player on this roster who is allowed to have the lowest bar possible yet we have invested the most resources in him. It's lunacy.
