Cam Newton needs to be treated like Alex Smith

Go to the "I" formation. Run the football. Take decisions out of Newton's hands. Cam Newton may become a great quarterback one day. He is NOT a great quarterback right now. This whole offense was designed around Newton and it is backfiring mightly. It is a fiasco that is going to cost Rivera his job. I think that is unfortunate, because I believe Ron Rivera is a good coach. He just bought into the Cam Newton "quarterback revolution" nonsense.

I agree. I don't like the idea of putting so much responsibility of the success of the offense on a player that still has a lot to learn. It still annoys me that people are so shocked that Cam has regressed. The offense was a lot simpler last season and Chud seems to be doing his damnedest to make sure Cam doesn't continue learning the quarterback position in a smooth fashion. We're asking too much from a player that isn't ready.

Yes, we all want Cam to be able to handle those big boy tasks and I'm not completely opposed to throwing him into the fire, but forcing him to believe that learning the read option is a good use of his time/snaps isn't the right way to go. We need to go back to simple football and fundamentals or he's going to end up like Vick where it takes him 6 years to learn how to throw a football.

You do whatever it takes to win. This team has too much talent to be losing. If the read option isn't working then let's go run the ball. People say Fox was unwilling to try different things, I beg to differ. We saw a game with no passes. We saw a game where Chris Weinke dropped back and passed nearly every down. We saw Jake with the empty backfield five receiver set when we needed something new. We saw Peppers at tight end. We saw flea flickers and fake punts, field goals.

What the hell does this new offense do? Shotgun formation, read option, cam dropping back and throwing deep. Not much else.

Cam is not regressing. He has not played like he is regressing. The play-calling is the large bulk of the issue. Cam makes his mistakes, sure, but it's not like he's a turnover machine (he's about middle of the league there, and Brees has more than him, so there is your "elite").

Cam is a good QB. I'll concede that he isn't great, and we shouldn't expect him to be. I've stated many times, Cam is a weapon to be utilized, not depended on solely. He's not Aaron Rodgers (yet). Give him time to really grasp everything and give him a CONSISTENT offense to work with each week rather than this cutesy BS that Chud calls an offense and he'll flourish like he did last season and like RGIII is now.

Did you see that potential game-winning pass that went straight into the dirt in the Seahawks game?

How about the pass that flew over Stewart's head before Lafell's TD against the Cowboys?

How about that interception in the endzone?

What about Cam's inconsistent accuracy in the short-passing game?

How about Cam holding onto the ball too long and getting sacked?

How about Cam locking onto Smitty and failing to scan the field?

How about when Cam fails to notice that Greg Olsen is wide open?

How about when Cam always fails to look for the checkdown?

How about all the fail screens that Cam throws too high?

Face it, man. It's not just the play-calling. He's regressing because of the play-calling. Chud is preparing him poorly. The read option should not be emphasized if we want our quarterback to pass like a professional quarterback.

LOL...4 of this teams 5 loses have come by 6 points or less. This team has been in every game except one. The defense is showing real improvement. This is not a team that has "quit" and is not poorly coached. They have a young quarterback who just cannot get it done in the clutch. They are close. They are really, really close. They just need to get back to traditional football and treat Cam Newton like an average, young quarterback until he proves he is something more.

    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
    • oh now that's what you call Mother Fiuggure fans the ones that always have this fierce protective shield around the team no matter if they win or lose  & to be honest there is nothing really wrong with being a Mother Fiugguer fan they just have a different meaning or sense of what a true fan really is                                                 ☺️
