Panthers 7th in yards per offensive play, 28th in Total Offense

We're not ranked 7th in nothing by a mile.

Here you go...remember I said 7th NFC

I sorted the link to total NFL where the Panthers rank 18th. Not great for sure. Clearly mediocre. But far from the worst in the league.

And good enough to get you 5.8 yards per offensive play, which is very good indeed.

Ugh, TonyN has posted nothing but the same worthless argument over and over again. I have no idea why he decided to start a fresh thread with the same tired rhetoric that he's already spouted in countless other threads.

Thanks, didn't know. *puts on ignore*

All are welcome to ignore my posts. I believe the websites control panel gives you that option. I suggest you take advantage of it. Very interesting that amid all the ruffled petticoats, not a single poster has begun to explain the reasons for the offensive disparity except to invoke the "offensive line sucks" nonsense. Stats are just stats, but they beat the hell out of everything else...which is ultimately just opinion.

It's really very simple. Our offense up until this past week was boom or bust. Our entire offense and especially our running game were run almost exclusively out of the shotgun read option set. As a running play it was either a tackle for loss or a run for big gain.

Our passing game was more of the same. The majority of our passes were out of read option play action fakes, with very little short to intermediate route running. The slow developing read option play action would allow for long developing routes to finish, but it also allowed for pressure to get to Cam, more often than is desirable.

The basic point is that when our offense ran a successful play in prior weeks it was a big gain as we had very few short to intermediate yardage plays that were run on a consistent basis. This put us into a lot of 3rd and intermediate and longs. What this gives you is a large yards per play average but small overall offensive success and first downs.

This past week you saw a change, we ran a lot of quick routes and traditional power runs. It was a pretty big shift from prior weeks and we weren't exactly crisp, but it was a more balanced offense by far. The quick timing route that Smitty slipped on that was picked for six is a good example of a play that we hadn't run much before this week, and we saw similar plays all day long yesterday.

So YES, the problem has been play calling and overall offensive design. The read option might have worked had we had a better run blocking o-line, but as things are...it sucked major donkey nuts.

does the OP remind anyone of PFFT?

I thought he was originally, but he's using stats from ESPN and NFL.com (such as sorting o-lines by sacks given up as an overall o-line metric LMfugingAO) rather than espousing some retarded advanced metric that he doesn't really understand. So I dunno.

Yeah, agreed. Just another idiot to latch on to some random stat and make retarded posts over and over and over again.
