Steve and Rivera on Cam

I feel like the "leaders" of this team haven't stepped up enough to be talking like this about Cam, the second year player. It also doesn't ooze leadership to throw the entire team under the bus.

Players who have been around are making mistakes that kill drives. Olsen drops a sure first down. Smith slows up while running a route and the ball flies by him. Gross with that penalty which Stewart almost negated. Last week it was Olsen not coming to the errant throw and Smith slipping.

It's not purely their fault, but leadership in the locker room means little without performance and it definitely isn't all on Cam. Plenty of guys are making some plays, just not making all of them.

QBs are totally reliant on their teammates to succeed. Doesn't matter how great you are at anything, including leadership.

I also get tired about hearing this leadership stuff. Grown men, getting paid millions, shouldn't need a leader to do their job. I think it's some hidden way of making football seem more than what it is, which is adults getting paid insane amounts of money to play a game.

Being a winner makes a leader, not the other way around. If that were the case, would The Golden Calf of Bristol have been nixed in Denver and now riding the pine behind Mark Sanchez?

Was Kobe a leader when he was putting up stats and scoring 81? Nope. His team was mediocre and he was fresh off a rape scandal. Then they brought in Gasol and Phil Jackson, they made it back the promise land twice and he's back to being a devine leader.

If the Panthers can start winning, this crap won't be brought up anymore.

Its not Cam's fault #89 cant get open or is dropping balls at alarming rates. Steve had 2 TDs in the 1st week of last season. Let's see how long it takes him to get #2 this year. And the guy still cant keep his mouth shut publicly about teammates. This isnt his team anymore, he needs to learn to fall back and bow out gracefully. Cam is teaching him what leadership and poise is about. He always points the finger at himself. If #89 did that after the Giants game, probably wouldnt've took him til now to do something Lafell and Pilares did weeks ago.

or the fact pass interference gets called on the defender every time the ball gets throw to smitty in the end zone giving us the ball at the 1. Thats happened about 5 times this season costing smitty touchdowns.

I think Steve is just trying to motivate Cam....in any way possible

Motivating through the press always turns out bad. It's like a homemade porn video. No matter your intention when you made it, once it hits the internet you gonna have a bunch of guys ....... well you get the picture.

Unless your a Kardashian.

Stop talking about Smitty like Cam hits him in the hands every catch. Yeah, 89 has had some drops, but Cam has missed Smith even more, and that's why Smith's TDs are down this year. It's a symbiotic relationship, and as the veteran who is damned near legendary status, Smith has the right to say what he has said about Cam. Play time is over and the kid gloves need to come off in my opinion.

Because, in Smitty World, it's all about Smitty.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
