Seasonal Blues

Is there anyone here who is effected by seasonal blues or even during bad weather or overcast days?

It's only mid November and I can already tell this winter is going to be hard. I've had this problem my whole life, even when I was a child. I try to get as much as sunlight as possible. I force myself to go out and be with other people. Thank goodness for Thanksgiving & Christmas because it keeps me busy.

What is your way of dealing with it?

Do you have Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD?

I catch a lot of flak for my feelings about the topic of depression in general, because while I acknowledge that it is real and does exist, I think too many people allow themselves to feel helpless against it.

I'll say it until my last days, the mind is the most powerful thing in the world, it can easily defeat depression and other ills, you just have to put in the effort and believe.

Oh and get lots of vitamin D, both kinds

Mine is more based on being cooped up for days on end than the dark overcast days.

There will be quite a few days this winter Ill just bundle up in warm cloths and go sit by the fire ring in the back yard with a roaring fire. It gets me outside breathing the fresh air and seems to be all it takes to wipe out some of the winter funk.

And Irish Whiskey. Lots of Irish Whiskey.

Football offsets the misery of fall/winter/cold weather for me.

Plus I work indoors and go outside as little as possible when it's cold so there's that.

I fuging HATE cold weather, hate it. I'd rather it be 100 and humid than below 50.

It is my understanding that this winter is supposed to be a cold one. Yay.

When I wake up if can tell if it's going to be a glum day or not. I woke up at 6 this morning and I could feel it before I even got out of bed. I try not to let it affect my mood but I can feel it, it will make my whole body ache. I get up and keep going anyway. Today I'm finishing up the Christmas child boxes and I need to go out and pick up some more things to stuff them full.

The vit d thing is an issue. I have been on prescription doses of it off and on for about 5 years. when I'm not on the Rx dose, I take 4,000 IU/day. If I ever stop taking it, my vit d level will plummet. I also have to take 1600mg calcium daily because it's low as well. It is my understanding that these two things work together and it will cause body aches and depression symptoms if they are low.

while I do live in an area that gets cold and snowy winters, at least the sun shines here lots during the winter. My wife lived on the west coast before we met and she used to hate the winters...4 or 5 months of grey! I'll take the sun and cold over the grey.

get the lights...they are supposed to do wonders...and increase your vitamin D intake, you really can't take too much

Have struggled with depression and the related anixiety disorder most of my adult life. I tried the SSRi s and they werent for me. It really isnt weather dependent for me - what seems to make it worse is an excess of alcohol intake - though at the time of the buzz it feels good, the day or days afterward my moods seem to really take a nose dive. Try to limit your alcohol intake, intake of sweets and carbs, and start working out - nothing makes me feel better than a good workout - it also relieves stress and anxiety - and yes its tough to do when the black dog appears. You have to be proactive with this illness. Nothing makes me feel any more useless and weak than being a slug.

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
