Year 3 will tell a lot about Newton

We know he has the skills to be one of the best QB in the league. He's a solid passer but not elite due to accuracy issues, however he's probably the best running QB in the NFL which makes up for it.

One LARGE question remains: does he have that killer instinct? As good as hewn lately he's still 11-19 for his career and is yet to lead a game winning drive. Is he a winner? When he gets the ball with 2:43 left and 80 yards to go will we have confidence he's gonna deliver or will we find ourselves saying "here we go again"?

He needs to have us in the playoffs next year. I don't care who the coach, especially if the defense plays well again next year.

Look at his past. He has killer instincts. The team calling a lot of run plays with the lead is not Cam's fault. I think that he pretty much is starting to figure it all out and everything is slowing down for him. The main thing I think he needs to work on in the off season is his foot work. Sometimes it is pretty ad causing him to be inaccurate

He led a game-winning drive to beat the Jaguars last year. He's had multiple game-leading drives blown by the defense.

Exactly. He would have had a game winning against Minn last year had Mare not blown the FG...what about Chicago this year?

And why are we even focusing on Newton? Why are we not focusing on getting a better team around the guy?

Cam's accuracy is fine. His accuracy is the most over analyzed aspect of his game. All QBs miss throws. Tom Brady air mailed three or 4 passes tonight also. As his decision making gets better after getting more experience so will his completion percentage. He is still learning.

Cam will likely be like most QBs, and continue to have up and downs next year again. Becoming a consistent and elite QB is generally a 5 year process. Until that point he will have peaks and valleys just like he is right now. But eventually he will have seen everything and know what to do against everything he sees. THAT is when he will be truly scary.

We just have to figure out how to win some games during those valleys and we will get to the playoffs.

Accuracy isn't just about completion %. It's about putting the ball in a spot were the receiver can get yards after the catch. How many times has Cam jacked up a screen pass that J Stew jumps 2 feet off the ground to haul in while the defense closes in? How many times has Steve had to reach back, slide to the ground, or otherwise adjust for a ball instead of run in stride? These are the hidden plays within a play the truly elite passers make. Proper ball location is a mental game for Cam. He knows what the proper mechanics are but when the pass rush closes in, he's down by two scores, the season is on the line, and the media is calling him a bust. Does he revert to his college footwork or stick with his NFL footwork? It's all mental. We know that Cam has the ability to make these plays because we have seen him do it. We just need him to do it all the time. Especially under pressure.

    • "If you could change any one instant in Carolina Panther history, ... just ONE, ... what would it be? Initial gut reaction when I first thought of this question is Kasay kicks it in bounds on the kickoff, but unfortunately I still think New England wins that game even with that My second instinct was pulling Bene out before he breaks his leg in the playoffs. My crackpot theory is if he never gets hurt we win the superbowl. I refuse to go back and watch the game but at some point Peyton throw an absolute duck that should have been pick 6'd. but because we were on our like fifth outside corner he was slow to the ball. this would have completely flipped that game because I'm pretty sure Denver scored that drive and the next one was the Cam sack fumble
    • The Patriots win the 2015 AFC Championship game.
    • 1a. Drafted Tom Brady in the 5th round. 1b. Might be an unpopular opinion, but when Reid was let go in Philly, k would have fired Rivera and brought him in. It was obvious he was an offensive genius. Coaches like Reid don't come available often.
